Oh, I am sooo sorry. I always get so sad when stuff like this happens. Atleast he was with someone who cared about him for the last part of his life.

I am so sorry for your loss. I'm sure there must be a special heaven for sliders to make up for the terrible time so many of them have here on earth.

One could only hope. What has this world come to. It seems for every 1 person who cares for an animal properly, 5 stupid sh*theads have to get one too and end up killing the poor things. Or torturing them with a life of hellish treatment.

Well I took Omar to the vet to determine a cause of death. Expensive but I have to know. Results....unknown. He had no airway obstruction or inpaction in the intestines. His tissue appeared healthy, etc. etc. My vet has always been very good to me. She was shocked when I brought Omar in. She suggested that the cause of death was ireversable mental trauma. Living for 3 years in a tank he could hardly turn around in with none of his needs met, can reak havok on an animals mental state. Either that or he may have developed a tumor in his brain that caused a sort of epileptic attack. Although no tumor was found.
So, I don't know what to think. Does anyone have an idea?
Its only been a few days and I already found another homeless Red-ear. It's a boy about 9 months old. Was kept in a large fishbowl most his life till the parents felt bad and dropped it on my local pet guys doorstep. He has no room for it so, I'm bringing "Omar Jr." home tomorrow. In loving memory of Omar.

Maybe the stress of the sudden change from a crap bowl to a big tank. Stress is a very likely possibilty. I am sure the vet checked for renal problems.
Once again, sorry for your loss. It's always hard losing a turtle. I have to agree and there are lot of idiots who do not research the animal. Too many people see turtles like fish - plop them in a tank and throw in pellets. [sigh]
Good luck with Omar Jr.
Cheers,
JJ;)

Thanks Wu-Gwei. He was very stress the first couple weeks. Infact once on his basking area, he wouldn't leave it. When he'd get in the water he freeked out. Almost like he was scared he couldn't swim, never having been in deap enough water to swim. Then once used to the water he didn't come out for about 2 weeks. Then he learned to love both the water and the land area. For the last 4 months he's seemed healthy and fine when it comes to stress. This was a real shocker!
So sorry to hear about the little guy, it's dreadful what can happen to these beautiful animals in the wrong hands :(
I am very sorry for your loss.
I have one RES named Mikey. For 13 YEARS Mikey lived in a 15 gallon tank with NO UV light, no way to get out of the water, and NOTHING but pellets. We have had him almost two years now and he is loving every single second of extra space and sunshine he gets.
Congrats on taking in yet another turtle, there are so many that get dumped on. :(
