What are some ways of transporting snakes....

I was thinking of putting in a pillow case and then for protection sitting that in a cooler (like the hard Coleman or Igloo drink coolers). However, there aren't any holes for ventilation so I'm concerned this might not work.

Any ideas?

A lot of people around here transport their snakes exactly as you mentioned. You obviously don't want to keep them in a closed cooler for a prolonged period of time but typically they don't need as much air as a warm blooded animal would.

I put them into small Rubbermaid containers with holes (my typical temporary enclosures) and then put those into a cooler with some pop bottles with hot/warm water.

i have a small tank prolly a 5 gallon I put them in with a screen top. works for now, once they are bigger.. well I guess it is either carry or pillow case :)

I moved from Minnesota back home to Arizona, and while bringing all my herps with. I also went back to visit and took some snakes to a friend along they way and picked up some snakes in Colorado on the way back. I used Sterilite tubs with vent holes and substrate (just like my racks at home) and also used pillowcases and softened tubs (with subtrate) for the boids. If your only going a short distance, no big need to be concerned on air. Always watch the temps, as this is the danger zone. To much heat will kill during the summer, and quickly too. Putting the herps in a cooler is a good idea as they keep the temperatures from from changing rapidly. I just try to be nice and give them something soft to lay on for the bumpy ride.
