What are some ways of transporting snakes....

to say the vet, etc.

I was thinking of putting in a pillow case and then for protection sitting that in a cooler (like the hard Coleman or Igloo drink coolers). However, there aren't any holes for ventilation so I'm concerned this might not work.

Any ideas?

Unless you are keeping the snake in the cooler for a day or more, you shouldn't need ventilation holes.... A few hours will be fine. :)

Thanks Tim. I like the cooler idea because of the handle to make it easier to carry. Would I need to worry about adding heat or would just sitting on the floor of my car be okay?

Also saw someone make mention to getting an heating pad from like shoppers drug mart that can hook up to a cigarette lighter and have that turned on during the ride.

Use those heat pads that you put in your shoes or gloves. They work well and thats what they use when they are shipping reptiles.

My vet recommended just a plain old pop bottle filled with hot water, then wrapped in a towel. Just make sure you secure it properly so it doesn't have a chance of rolling around. Also, probably not the best idea for really long trips, unless you can refill the water bottle every couple hours. Definatly cheap though!

Just use a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel. Those things stay warm for quite a while, and are big, so there's little chance of them rolling around inside the cooler.

Yup. Use the old pop bottle full of warm water method. Cheapest way to go and the heat lasts for hours. :)

If you are driving you should not need to add extra heat. The heat from your vents will be wam enough this time of year.

When I am traveling to Winnipoeg in January I will have a few heat pads for emergencies. I hope I do not need to use them. (Knock on Wood)
