Hey guys. I am so not an insect person but even I think this is one cool bug!
Here's a link to a picture:

It's apparantly really venomous but the care sheet I read says it's not deadly. Anyone know about these guys?
Disclosure: I am so not into keeping bugs. It's just for my own information. :p

Centipedes are not deadly (unless bit on the neck ;)). But the bigger ones can inject more venom than the smaller ones, so they can punch alot! So yeah, we can say they're highly venomous :) Centipedes are also escaping experts...
I used to have one and never got bit (thankfully). I know that the Vietnamese is the only centipede credited with a human fatality (it was a child that was bit on the head) and that their bite is supposedly comparable to a gunshot as far as pain goes. Neat looking critters but watch out for those fangs.

subspines? an asian giant, all centi's hurt bad, strong jaws, potent venom with glands at the base of most legs. forest are said to be less aggressive than desert/savannah species as far a scolopendra though a hemiscolopendra seemed aggressive enough to me lol. an h. heros or viridis can be very aggressive when disturbed

That is right these Centipedes are contributed to a human death. Read this care sheet it is very good. http://www.petbugs.com/caresheets/S-subspinipes.html

I am not sure if they are deadly or not but unless you plain on holding it, then I don't think it would matter too much ;)
If you do plan on holding it, DON'T! That's about all that I can say :)

oh man i had a nightmare about them when i was like 8 or 9. havent really liked em much since.
I first became interested in them when I saw David Cronenburg's film adaptation of The Naked Lunch. I was thrilled the first time I saw one for sale and snapped it up In the end I was largely disappointed with keeping them because none of the ones I had even came close to living up to their reputations.

"One cool bug" is an understatement! IMHO this is the most beautiful and amazing creature on the planet. (Ever see them eat??? It's AWESOME!!!) My first tattoo was of a centipede, and so far I've only met one other person with a centipede tattoo. Anyways, I think they are definitely underrated! And anyone who hasn't had the thrill of seeing one in person needs to put that at the top of their To Do List!!! :)

I have indeed. They sort of *munch* on crickets the way a hamster munches on rodent food.
