I can't tell you how many times I've seen this exact thing. I got both my red-ears from situation EXACTLY like this. 10 gallon tank, little rock , etc.
TAKE THE TURTLE!!! If you can keep it and provide it with proper care and give a sh** at all STEAL the turtle from him. He's slowly killing it. Please help that turtle. For all of us reading your post, give him a good home!! Please! If he wants more money I'll send you $10 bucks. And im sure others would too. Make it happen.

I see you post a lot of threads on this subject. I see it as a shame to the animals myself.

I took in a Red Ear Slider that was left in an appartment by a co-workers ex-boyfriend. One of the other fellas I worked with (of whom his roomate gave me all his cricket fed iguanas) became the "Janitor" of the apartment complex and said the turtle had to of been there over 2 months without anyone in the apartment. Same situation. It was in a bust tub from a restaurant, 2 inches of cold Minnesota water and nothing else! Anyhow, it fed well in my care. I put it in a huge rubbermaid with filters, rocks, plants and such and it just thrived, and GREW!! It now lives with a friend who has done great with it.

As for the iguanas, they all died eventually. I swear the whole town did this to herps and it was just sad to say the least. Frankly, I do not see any way of helping other than rescuing the lil' guy and/or reporting the owner if you find it nessesary. That is why I try to tell all of those I know of about what it takes to keep herps. Word of mouth will help out, even if it is by any means a small helping hand. I have learned to accept the fact through the last many years that this is something that will not end and the only thing I find that helps is to speak up and do something.

Again, it is something to accept, something to do get into as much as you want. Help is by no means a bad thing. Some folks just do not understand, know or care enough, and that is the time to put in your 2 cents, your time and effort if you choose to do so.

Good to hear your trying. Some people don't go the extra mile. I'm glad you are. I wish I could help.
