hey im wondering if some of you could link me to a good caresheet on mangrove monitors, i haven't been able to find any, or give me some of the general info by yourself. i was wondering what size they got, temperment, can you keep them in huge rubbermaids or what you house them in, feeding requirements etc....just the basics would be nice

also how much does it normally cost for a captive bred?

Hey there,

CB Indicus are somewhat of a rare thing to come across, most will be imports from solomon islands. Generally these imports won't exceed 3 feet (36") however there can always be exceptions. These imports are flighty most of the time, and will generally deficate on you when handled, but after frequent handling, these can become quite tame as adults. Expect to pay 200-400 for these Indicus.

A rubbermaid is probably going to be a little small for a mangrove, it's probably best housed in a custom terrarium. When I had my adult he was housed in a 6'L x 3'W x 4'H. Thiss as small as I would go. Although mine was never very active, he still made use of the 4' of height I provided. You must provide a very large water container to soak in, as well as a decent burrowing substrate. At least 24" of it by my count. Temps and humidity should both be high. 85-87 on the hot side, and about 77-80 on the cool side...Provide a basking spot of 100-120 for juvi's and 130 for adults. The humidity should be upwards of 65-80%. To achieve this, spray frequently, or add a large humid/hot hide with peat moss in it to hold the moisture.

Feeding...You are going to be feeding your indicus mainly an insect diet as a juvi with the occational rodents. Be sure to supplement as well. I know in the past ground turkey has been offered as well as canned cat or dog food. Although I stuck to a variety of insects and the occational rodents.

I am sure a forgot a couple of things but do a quick google search on Varanus Indicus and fill in the blanks:)

Good luck with your mangrove, they are a great monitor!:)

Oh...and be sure to provide a couple hollow logs for your mangrove, believe me, they will go to good use!

best wishes
