hello, i was recently surfing the web for a good cleaning substance and a webpage recommended something called "quat sanitizer". It turns out we use this at my job, would it be any good?

A few reputable reptile supply shops sell a product called Quat-Plus. I use it, and it works great. Curious to know if this is the 'industrial' product as opposed to the personal-use one?

think the differance could be toxic to my animals? how could i safely test this?

do you have to rinse the agent out after you use it? The post i read said that it was instant and would wipe clean.

In your link, it said that it can be used for cleaning/disinfecting/sanitizing food surfaces. That's good enough for me. If it can be used as a cleaner on my food cutting surfaces, then it can be used to clean my balls' enclosures.

We were never allowed to use it at Penn because it contains aluminum chloride which is fairly toxic to skin and mucus membranes. We used chorhexadine instead.

eyespy,
Do you know where I can aquire chlorhexadine preparation? The only name I know it by is Novalsan, but have had no luck finding it anywhere, although admittedly I haven't put my greatest efforts in to finding it :o I just use 3% hydrogen peroxide you get at any pharmacy or co-op, for most of my routine cleaning jobs. Great at cleaning non-glass enclosures (streaks glass if you don't rinse) and excellent at removing dried on urates. Disinfection I add vinegar in to the equation, and sometimes followup with some alcohol as well.

I get mine through the vet school, in the "human" formula Hibiclens. Darby Drugs is our supplier. EZ-Scrub is another brand name but I think the just plain chlorhexidine may have been discontinued and now it's sold embedded in scrub brushes and sponges as disposable hygiene supplies.

How much does it cost from big apple herp supplies and what is it listed under? Looking for something that will make cleaning/disinfecting/santizing ALOT easier when using on a 30L tank. Any ideas? about what it runs/name it is listed under website?

look for Nolvasan, or Virosan. I did a search on google and could only find places in the states that have it.

I think also Pro Exotics in the states sells it as well, it is suppose to be an awesome cleaning solution for disenfecting.

You can order generic "Nolvasan" from the Bean Farm. It comes in a 1 gallon jug and you only use 2 tablespoons for a 32oz Spray bottle. It does have an expiry date so unless you have a big collection you should find someone to split the gallon with.

I work at a Petsmart. We use Lemon Quat for cleaning and disinfecting everything. The stuff is awesome. Works great for soaking bird perches and any other caked on crap too. Wish I knew of a place I didn't have to steal it from ;)
