View Full Version : Feeding Ball Pythons
I have two BPs there a little over a foot and i only feed it a mouse once a week. i want to know can i feed it a mouse twice a week or would it be harmful. but if ok to do so then would it be safe to feed it again within 24 hours of last feeding
First of all, try to get your bp's on rats. Also, try feeding them two appropriate-sized rat pups or a weanling once a week, chances are they'll snatch them right up.

i agree with mykee, get them on rats the size of the thickest part of their body. also feed once every 5 days, not 7
You don't want to feed 24 hours after a meal. That is too soon, your snake hasn't been able to digest his previous meal enough. A good feeding guide for babies is one prey item every 5-7 days until you learn how to tell when your snake is hungry. He will hunt around his cage looking for food. Once you learn to recognize that, you will be able to forget about counting days and just feed your snake when he wants to eat ;)

I agree, 8Ball (I have a post of him eating on this forum) will come out when we swirch lights and start looking everywhere for food, we have been feeding him sometimes 3 times a week sometimes within 48 hrs of the last meal. Granted I have been told he can eat larger prey but no harm has come to him from it. Give it a try!!

proly wouldent hurn but i think you should try converting it to rats instead of mice so it can get the right netrients
Cant switch to rats yet because im breeding my mice due to $3 mice in my area and the rats are high to.
My friend is about to breed rats so we can change rats for mice and stuff.

If you don't switch to rats quickly, you may end up with a BP that will only eat mice. Then, when it's 5' feet long and requires 3 lbs of rodents per meal, you're royally screwed.

killaclown--some bps will go off feed in the winter, and then you can't MAKE them eat, and i believe that if you want to breed your snakes, you have to lower their food intake (breeders? correct?), but otherwise, I think a good general rule is, 'if they'll eat, feed 'em.' especially while they're young and growing.
