View Full Version : Just a few questions...
For those of you who keep more then one crestie, do you prefer to keep them together in the typical 1.2 colony or house them seperately? I have 2 females and a male that I have had for a year, but have kept each seperate to be able to monitor who is eating etc. Now I am going to get a few more and hopefully breed this year. I'm just not sure of housing them together. Also, is there anyone here who uses the T-Rex Crested Gecko Diet? Do you just use that alone or do you mix it with baby food etc.? I had heard that it is complete in itself. Thanks...

Hi, Hope. i have 3, all separated, but my two young ones are still not sexed, altho one seems to be growing um..bulges...LOL! but when they are the adult size, i will place my female with a male, and if the other is a female, they will all live together. but on occasion, i will remove one or both females to give them a break, and also once re-introduced, the male will probably be very interested if he has not seen her in a few days.
I use the CGD and i mix it with babyfood and add some water, b/c if they don't eat it right away, it dries up fast, especially if you have a red basking light for nighttime viewing. my geckos do eat it. but in the beginning, i had to spark the babies appetite with some small crix. then, once they had an appetite, i put some in and they ate it.
Thanks Colleen. I had thought I had 3 females, when 6 weeks ago Ziggy got a big buldge lol...Seemed like he became a male overnight. He's a grey dalmation, Godiva is a dark chocolate color that changes from day to night, and Blaze is my fire morph, Bright yellow with orange highlights. I have never breed geckos before, so this is a first for me. I had seen a 36" x 13" x 13" rubbermaid tub today that I considered getting and putting them all in together. Then I had second thoughts about it and decided for now to keep them seperated. I have 35 corn snakes, and I am so used to keeping everyone seperated that its a hard habit to break; even though it's Geckos.:)
Most females do well living in groups, but you should definitely consider keeping the male separately. Many of my girls have lived together for a few years now and are very comfortable with a social structure. I've noticed that males tend to either get very aggressive or too complacent if they are kept with females constantly so it's a very good idea to keep your male in another enclosure, especially if you want to give breeding a try.
CGD is great, it's a fool-proof way to make sure your crested is getting proper nutrition and as a bonus it's cheap and easy to use. I use it as a staple and feed them crix & babyfood every once and a while, I still get a kick out of watching them hunt. Good luck with your cresties, and keep an eye out for any more overnight sex changes. ;)
Hi Sara, They loved the cgd food. This is much easier and I feel like they are getting a well balanced meal. I think I am going to introduce my females this weekend also and see how they get along.
