I was wondering if anyone has ever had any issues with using a UTH with their Rubbermaid (i.e. melting, scorching, etc to the plastic).

I have switched to a Rubbermaid cage and currently have only a small UTH underneath and I need to get a larger one, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has ever had any safety issues.

Please let me know as it's getting vcolder here in Houston and I don't want my ball to get to chilly!

Thanks!

Colder in Houston??? LOL

NEVER use a UTH on a rubbermaid without a rheostat control. Even the small UTHs get to well over 120 degrees on the surface, and the plastic from the rubbermaid will just trap that heat. I honestly hope you have DEEP substrate in the rubbermaid to insulate against it.

I highly recommend you switch to rheostatically-controlled heat tape. You can get it from www.thebeanfarm.com .

Or another option thats cheap is to wire in a dimmer switch, and find desired temp.
