Yes this who’d probably be a good post, if you think it may be useful? Il do one!
How do you know your dumeril is feeding? Maybe you will have to separate the little girl.
In my cage she was fed almost every day with tongs, but things are different in your cage, I guess you will need to adjust.
cheers

You Know this post is upsetting many keepers, even if its professional breeders tips, aimed to save life’s, most peoples are offended by this post.
My doter almost died from salmonella, 5 days in intensive care! To save my babies life Id be willing to use any science or nature given options, it turns out Id also do this to save my monitors.

HI Steve,
"Yes this would probably be a good post, if you think it may be useful? I'll do one!"
Yes, Please do, I am sure it will be very informative and much welcomed,
by myself and others.
"How do you know your dumeril is feeding?"- Maybe you will have to separate the little girl."
All are eating, all the time, I have 20 rats breeding.. just to feed the trio, lol.
I do keep a close eye on them, and believe me they are little pigs.
There is also never a time when there is not at least 3-5 fresh fuzzies in the enclosure, if they are not all eaten a short period of time, they get tossed in the Albig enclosure and are eaten befor they hit the ground.
Talk soon

These fourms serve many purposes but in my opinion there are only a few threads that really share experience and information. I don't have monitors, but I read your posts, learn from them and encourage you to continue to provide this type of information. It is unfortunate that other keepers would be upset by this, but I would not place much value on the opinion of those who would prevent people from sharing their experience through this forum. Perhaps you could encourage them to share their concerns in the thread - what are the issues that offend them?

Hi Steve,
Force feeding techniques are very useful to the vara-keeper, for when it is required there is no other way to do this. I used to use wooden tongue depressors to open the animals mouth up with so I would not hurt/damage the lizards teeth, gums, jaws with metal tongues. Making sure the food gets past the airway is very important, and as this is a forced feeding, the varanid may reject = vomit up the food so if you hold the lizard at an angle, say 45% tail down direction, the food has a better chance of staying there. These proceedures are extremely stressful to both lizard and kepper, but the choice, usually when having to do this proceedure is life-threatening anyways....thanx for sharing steve.
