Split nose on Iguana.

Ok......another one about my "parents".

I was doing a check on my parents Iguana. I noticed that one side of her nose between the nose holes) on her left nose was so swollen that it is almost completely closed! Then my partner pointed out that between her nose is a split! She is about 4-5ft long, and in a 55 gallon tank! :( :( I also noticed that when she stands up (takes her belly off of the floor) her sides cave in kind of underneath her ribs! When I asked "step dad" about it he said "oh she does it all the time. eats, stops eating, eats stops eating." I said "she probably has parasites!" he said "oh ya probably" as he walked away!

Just ranting..........I can't do anything about it until I move in June. Becuase if I do then ALL the animals will be taken away. Even mine, which are all well cared for.....So I'm just ranting. And if anyone might want to take a few wild guess'es at what is wrong with her nose and what might help, that would be great. I say wild guess'es because I can't get a pic.........

Ah man that sucks! Well show him some pics on the internet of what size cage the animal SHOULD have, and tell him that the parasites will most likely kill her. Im not sure what to do in a situation like this, good luck with it

My wild guess would be infection set in to a noserubbing wound or there is a wicked mouth rot going on.

This poor girl needs a good cleanup and antibiotics. Since your parents refuse to take their animals to the vet, can you at least wash out the affected area with diluted Betadine and put some triple antibiotic ointment on the poor girl?

That's totally foul. If I was you I would call the SPCA on them. I cannot believe this iguana is suffering like this and it hasn't been given pain meds, a vet trip, anything. It is making me sick.

No offense to you of course, it's not your fault, but if I was you I'd really consider calling the SPCA on them or I would have taken the iguana to the vet myself, I dont care what they would say. It's a big no no to refuse medical treatment to pets.

You should take her to the vet yourself. and preferably have it kept at the vets until she is better, I don't know when you are moving, but maybe pick her up when you do and bring her home with you. People who treat animals with such disregard should not own them As for the SPCA, they might no do anything, but definately try it, just tell them that you own pets also, and this one is not yours and is not under your care, before you give them your address, ask question on what they do, to make sure you don't loose your pets.

See thats the thing. she's "wild", I can't pick her up alone, and personally I am afraid of her, as well as my partner. We ourselves don't have access to Betadine, much less the money for it. We definitly could not bring her with us. We don't have the room or the money to correctly care for her. And as I said she is totally wild, you can't walk towards the cage without her puffing up her throat thing and curving her tail , getting ready to whip it.....We sure as heck don't have the money to bring her to a vet, and since "animals, and reptiles" are considered "property" I could be reported for theft (and they would do something like that). PLUS I already contacted the ASPCA (spca) and was basicly told that if I pursue the matter any further then all animals and reptiles will be taken out of the house. And I don't want MY babies taken away because they can't care for their reps. So my hands are basicly tied....I can't do anything. But will try to get ahold of some betadine and triple antibiotic ointment for her. But doubt that will help since she has NO substrate and is directly on the glass, she is about as long as her cage, and the cage is LESS than 1 foot wide.she has no room to turn. But when we leave we are calling everyone possible....in the mean time I am trying to help take care of their animals best I can while still giving my animals good treatment.............
