View Full Version : Anyone in Ontario or even Canada working with albigularus?
Just curious to see if anyone is working with this species. Though I havent had tremendous success yet, It would be interesting to hear how everyone elses progress is coming and compare notes.
Respond here as I think it would be a pretty informative thread for everyone to read! Thanks,
I work with a large 5 foot male Black throat and a 4 foot male white throat at my work although we don't have any mates.. We used to have a female last year but she past away .. she got egg bound :( (due to unsatisfactory nesting site in m oppinion)
I love albigs and would pay very good money for CB white throats..

If your are talking about black throat monitors i have a 1.2 trio and let me tell you they are the best of all monitors i think. I have had really no success in breeding one female layed some eggs and i got 5 out of 10 babys hatched. I diden't know she was prego but i did my best and got a couple of babies. they are really hard to breed. they need almost perfect conditions.
Just my 2 cents!!
Have any pics of the babies, and did you make them available for sale? If you have any please PM me. Thank you
PS what kind of setup did you use to achieve breeding/hatching?

I love these monitors and I had to be talked in to getting one. Now I couldn't imagine not having her (if it is a female). It would be great to try and breed them. Maybe someday I will try but I gotta learn how to sex them.
I think they are a great monitor to keep.
T&J I totally agree. I purchased my first from Grant at a reptile expo in Toronto. I liked them but had no intentions of breeding, but now, Whenever theres one available i usually buy it.. Iam obsessed!! Their look, their attitude everything about them IMO is what a lizard SHOULD be :) I will post some pics for sexing them, as I think i've gotten quite good at it, hopefully it'l help you.

My wt is small. Only about 4 ft. and hasn't really grown to much lately. At 2 and a half years I am not sure if the growth slows down or has it topped out yet? It would be interesting to find out.
get a picture of the animal from above. complete with his full tail in the photo. Tail base is very important to make a good guess.
I also have a White throat. His name is smoochie(I think it is a him). I would love any info on sexing them. I will be attempting to acquire a breeding colony this summer in hopes of breeding next fall. I have been looking for other albig keepers for awhile. Everybody seems to prefer the ionedesi(black throat) sub-species. But I will stick with my smoochie. I look forward to chatting with a few more of you.
Hi, I currently have 6 albigularus.. 2 albigularus microstictus, 1 whitethroat and three ionides. I love them, they gotta be the most entertaining species going IMO.. Post some pics, and i'll see if I can help with your sexing...
