Now, everytime I got to the store to get tortoise salad ingredients and I always heitate when I get to the greens section. I know endive can be a part of their diet, but I am a little unsure as to what kind. There are two at the store, once labelled blegian endive and the other endive/chicory. I have a feeling it is the latter but just want to make sure. TY :)

Linds, from what I know about wild herbs, I would suggest that you are correct about the endive/chicory because it grows wild, while I believe the Belgian version is a hybridized plant.

Just my 2 cents...

I agree with sophia.

Also, you can never go wrong with dandelion. A lot of grocery stores carry it and it's surely one of the best greens to offer your carapaced friend :)

Thanks for your input Sophia and Jon :) My little Redfoot just Loves dandelion (well, he loves just about anything), but I like to feed as broad a variety as I can, and now it can be even broader since I know what kind of endive I can get :)

Sounds good to me. As to the Dandelion, Jon, I drink that stuff all the time to help flush my system and keep my gall bladder in check (greens and roots), and the greens are great in my salad, I love that tad of a bitter bite. I used to feed our baby turtles clover too, so that's a thought, I just washed it to the point of paranoia because I picked it myself from the yard, that and Dock. Dock is really good for the digestive system of both humans and animals.
