does anyone know what the best combination is to breed to get borneo bateaters, all i know is thats its a albino burm and retic, but what kind of retic and what sex and what sex of albino burm, and have many people had any luck breeding them together, also how big must they be cause burms they grow faster than retics. any help would be great. Thanks Phil

Albino Burm? Where'd you get that from? Just a regular Burm will do. Don't know why you'd need an albino.

And Burms don't grow faster than Retics. Retics have AMAZING metabolisms. They grow insanely fast.

can you use an albino tho?, what type of retic would you use?, could you use a dwarf or super dwarf? is there any difference in the snakes that are born if you use say albino female or male with any retic or certain ones, there is so many different retics. can anyone direct me to a website that has pictures and or different breeds to use? any help would be great Thanks Phil

hey phil!! nerd has pics of borneo bateaters on there unless the retic was het for albino then breeding an albino burm will still produce "normal" borneo bats.

I was under the impression that the albino traits were not compatible between burms and retics. I could be wrong, of course.

borneo bateaters....those are the snakes that sit outside of caves @ night waiting for the bats to fly out right? or are there more than a few species that do this?

nolagirl, there are many species of snakes that do this, but the borneo bateaters we are talking about is a hybrid bred in captivity between a burmese python and a reticulated python, why they actually called it that im not intirely sure.

Are not a specificaly from the "captive breeding" of Burms and Tic's. The first ones came from Anson Wong in the late 70's.Wild Caught.. As far as i'm aware it produces specimens that are genetic "mules". They cannot produce viable babies. The "albinistic" trait has not been passed due the the uncompatibility. The last breedings I was aware of was from a pair that Larry Rouch had in Virginia. They bred multiple times but did not produce viable eggs. Thanks Ray G. HBR

Well I've read the story of how the bateaters got their name and it started by someone who imported them and had self named them himself .He sent out x-mas cards one year with one of these snakes on the front and a made up latin name. Everybody called him wanting one and asking where he got it from. Then later on he brought one to a show and everybody held it and loved it and really wanted one and he wouldn't say anything about them and was calling them "borneo bateaters". Years later Bob Clark and Kevin from NERD figured out how to make them by breeding a retic to a burm. The name just stuck with it.

*ALF*

That is the story that I remember. I KNOW that it is not in full from what I wrote but that is how I remember the story of how it got it's name. Dave Barker of VPI knows the whole story and it's been posted on "the other site". If you can find it.

Also there has never been a FULL albino borneo. All I know of there have been 75% burm 25% retic. Meaning a het for albino bateater was bred back to a full albino burm. Most likely a retic was not used to breed back to as they have only been being produced for roughly 4 or 5 years and still to expensive to use for this project. Also if a bateater was bred back to a retic the offspring is then called "jungle retics".

Sorry for the long post...I wonder if anyone has read it...if you DID read it...name the alien from Melmac...it SHOULd be obvious.

Personally I would go with a male retic. A male retic that hasnt seen any loving during the season seems to be very very unpicky with what he will breed especially if the female has follicles.

Its very very unlikely that the most common form of albinism in retics(the clark strain) and the albino burm form of albinism is compatable but it hasnt been proven so who knows. Your best bet for albino bateaters would probably be the amel albino retics and the albino burm.
