View Full Version : Elaphe carinata PICS
Just thought I'd post some pics taken a while ago of my female King Rat from SCALES Zoo. She was nice enough to pose for me in her cage without going spazzo! lol! She's supposed to be around 2yrs old and is starting to get the nice adult patterning with more yellows coming through.

that guy was awesome! they sure do stink though :p
I don't understand what you guys are saying. They hardly smell at all. Yeah it's pretty bad, but boa musk is FAR worse!!

Have you been musked on by a carinata yet? From what you are saying, I really don't think you have.
I've smelled boa musk and anaconda musk (which many people cite as the worst smell) - and neither can come close to a good shot from a carinata.
The smell gets worse, even after washing, and sticks with a person for 3 days. It doesn't even seem biological to me, kind of bio-chemical, petrolium based or something really weird.
Come over some time, you can hold our big one - and we will irritate it so it musks on you. I bet we could get you to change your mind.

I remember when your Carinata musked her cage at the TARAS show. I almost passed out just walking by, it was so bad. :)

Wow great snake.
I guess so Ryan, b/c while these little ones have let loose a bit and it has been nasty, I just think that boa musk is much worse, than what I've smelt so far!
Guess we'll have to come over and probe the big one!! Gotta wait til winter's over though!

Hmm, maybe owning them and getting musked on BIG time while trying to tame them would be enough. I have to agree with Katt. They're not bad at all. I can name 5 other snakes worse to me than the carinatas.

I never remember the babies making "too much of a stink" - maybe it is because they are not WC?
The big nasty female doesn't smell quite as bad as she used to, but it is still very much worse than any other snake I've ever smelt.
Well could vary from individual to individual. Our cal kings musk occasionally and it's not too bad, but we've held kings in pet stores and they've musked and the stench is NASTY. Diet, care, and just individuality play a part I think.
