Greetings all,
Here is a follow-up from my last post regarding the Hemidactlyus sp. that was found in a tropical plant from a store. Click here (http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27945) for the story.
Anyway, it has been about a month since the first post so I thought I would take some new pics to update you all on his/her growth.
This picture was taken on October 18, 2003:
http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/500/3145Hemi1.JPG
Notice the tail tip was autotomized (prior to my arrival).
He/she has a SVL of 25.57mm (using Serpwidgets snake measurer program and the penny as a reference unit for length).

This picture was taken on November 15, 2003:
http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/500/3298Hemidactylus_Nov_15_2003-med.JPG
Notice the tail has completely regrown with nary an evident imperfection.
He/she has a SVL of 36.26mm (using Serpwidgets snake measurer program and the penny as a reference unit for length).

So, there you have it, over 10mm of growth (not to mention the energy expenditure of regrowing the tail) in less than a month (plus he/she completed an ecdysis cycle a week ago).

I think it's safe to say he/she is going to make it after all.....

Cheers,
Ryan

After seeing all the posts about stow-away herps I have started checking the plants very closely everywhere I see them. So far no luck.

UPDATE:
Well, he/she is still doing great and continues to grow. I measured him/her (using a digital image and Serpwidget's program) on February 28, 2004, here are all the measurements yet to date:
Measured on October 18, 2003 with a penny for reference (19mm). SVL = 27.095mm STL = 44.756mm
Measured on November 15, 2003 with a penny for reference (19mm). SVL = 36.175mm STL = 68.587mm
Measured on January 9, 2004 with a penny for reference (19mm). SVL = 40.708mm STL = 85.789mm
Measured on February 28, 2004 with a penny for reference (19mm). SVL = 49.98mm STL = 102.09mm
SVL = snout-to-vent length, STL = snout-to-tail length

Hard to believe that she was once this size:

And this is her now:

It's amazing how hardy this animal is!

To cute, what is the common name? I'm no good with the latain names lol.

I to have been checking plants with no luck, maybe more in the spring/summer.

Oops, it looks like I misspelled the genus anyway, it is supposed to read Hemidactylus (The Half-Toed Geckos). She is likely H. mabouia, Moreau's Tropical House Gecko.
