He's awesome!!! I have always wanted a mangrove. I saw babies at a recent show and we just don't have the room for another monitor. He looks great, good luck with him.

Thanks everyone! I wanted one for sooooo long!

Great! I know now that it's a male, it'll help for the name :D Thanks! Steeve, you can tell this by what, shape of head or tail? Unfortunatly he not tame at all, tail wip, defeccation and a bit of biting (that why the women who got him ask me to take him, they sold it to her as tame as a beardi...) but hopfully he'll only get better with time.

He was raised only on cat food and today he accept for the first time rat pinkys, I'm sooooooooooo happy.

also try fresh fish, shellfish and crabs (hermit, eating, freshwater etc) in diet, and don't worry about the salt, they blow it out their snouts!

Beautiful...
good luck, enjoy,

Thanks! I'll take good care of him. :)

I've tried fich (live in his water bowl and live out of the water) and shrimp without any luck so far. I'll keep trying!

Hers something aim desperately trying to show, however most cant see it, the tail base of just about all varanid are different, but you can see the deference only when viewing side by side, some species have different heads witch make them even easier to sex, in the case of all the Indicus complex, jobiensis, doreanus included the head is identical, however the tail base is deferent, in male it tapers a few inches past the cloaca, in females it doesn’t, when you’ve seen as many as I did, it becomes second nature to sex them by just looking at them, still many times I need to place them side by side to be sure, in your case you have a male, trust me it will never lay eggs. I can show you the same difference in all species at any age, however if you cant see the difference on this photo, then showing you any other photo won’t help!
Rgds
Ps. Its like the difference with your PNG and Salomon Indicus, sometime even taxonomist cant tell them apart, put them side by side and wow it strikes you.

Great pics! It help alot to see both side by side like that, I understand the difference now...but not sure I'll be able to aply it if I see another mangrove!

Not alot of website identify the locality of monitor. I did found a pics of one from Solomon Island but I dont see clearly as he's in a burrow. Could you tell me the difference?

Thanks alot

HI Steve,
Your photo, like your illustration of a vara-cage says a 1000 words! Does the tail thicken/thin with sexual readiness = horny? I know the fat storage and muscles in tail are high majority of space in the tails....

You always give me somethin to think about...and helps keep my mind off other 'junk' = Thanks!

Many Thanks Steve,
mark

Looks great Jeza ! Like I said in the PM, mine took a couple of years to settle down, but he's awesome now. He's pretty much stopped growing at about 3 and a half feet. Eats like a pig too ! Keep your fingers well clear at feeding time ......... trust me on that !! They've got huge teeth...... Cheers, Les

Very pretty lizard. I've had a couple myself...they can be a bit skittish, but the ones I had were pretty good about not biting.
Mostly poopers though.
I've heard things about not feeding goldfish because of all the parasites....maybe F/T is good though.
I had mine before I ever heard of parasite risks and fed them golfish and for a treat, crayfish.
They ate mice as well.
BTW,if you notice a pinkish secretion around the edge of the mouth it's not something to worry about.(from what I've read)
Apparently it's a trait peculiar to the species...both of mine had this pinkish "saliva",which I first took to be an injury to the mouth.

Thanks alot guys!

He gets this pink saliva when he chew on my gloves. I took of the gold fish, wich fish does not have parasites (and dosen't cost 4$ each!) and have a decent size?

Cheekeebandito, I'm looking foward to see more pics of yours! And I don't need to keep my finger clean at feeding time for now as there's no way he's going to eat in front of my! He's way too shy.

Haven't found a name yet...
