There is a 3 volume set of a series called "The Biology, Husbandry and Health Care of Reptiles" By Ackerman, DVM. I've seen it for sale at bigappleherp.com. I own it myself and it is a great book, containing so much information, your head will explode. Little expensive at bigapple, but look around, it's well worth it.

Snakes, The Evolution of Mystery in Nature
by Harry W. Greene.

There's also Snakes: A Natural History (i think that's the name; I don't have it in front of me)

I like the first book the best. It's pretty in depth without throwing a lot of jargon around to confuse the layman.

Check on www.chapters.ca for Reptile medicine
I bought my copy there last Christmas and they had a promotion so it only cost me 130$ shipped to my door!
As for amazon, 99$ us plus shipping doesn't cut it when you live in Canada.
As for the snakes of the world book, there is one on e-bay right now for 70$ us which I find quite expensive.

The 3 vol set by Dr.Ackerman is quite the advanced reading chore as is Dr Fry's Biology texts....There are a number of good reads that are informative and depending on the level of herp experiance have been posted already...there is another book that I read some years back that was great.."The Keeper and the Kept" ...sorry I can't remember who the author was....

There is also this book you might want. I bought it from the same person on e-bay and am really satisfied with his shipping methods and the book is really good for those species.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2359431120&category=1285

that book you mentioned is pretty good, but you might also consider this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2349654883&category=1285&rd=1
but I would check if you could get it for less cause it's quite expensive for 70$ plus shipping, but she is situeated in ontario and I did buy books from her before without hassles and shipping is honest.
