Snake Busters

Has anyone seen the new show on Animal planet called SNAKE BUSTERS? I watched it last night and he found a Boa in a house (VERY NICE BOA) and because they were not to be a part of Austrailia they had to put the snake down. What a shame but it was a pretty good show.

Well, animals that are in a country, and are not indigenous to that country can cause a major problem. They did what they needed to do, unfortunate though.

Austrailia has a very fragile ecosystem because of it's isolation from the rest of the world early on when the continents seperated, so the introduction of non-indigenous life causes a major strain on native populations. There's a reason marsupials died out pretty much everywhere else in the world.

They have pretty draconian laws to protect that ecosystem as well. Unfortunate but necessary there.

Most ecosystems are fragile. Austraila has just taken appropriate measure to protect thiers. Most countries willing screw thiers up in the name of profit.

Someone tell the Aussies to send all those unwanted out of towners to us!!! :) That is a pretty good show though. Hey Brandon wait until u see the pic of the huge suli retic I just bought I'm gonna send you! Tell me if mine is bigger then yours ;)

Unfortunately they do euthanize many escaped reptiles in North America. Luckily we are allowed to keep species that are not indigenous to this continent, so some of them still do get a chance at life, but sadly many still do not... :(

Well I suppose that's one good thing in the UK - I can't see the average escaped reptile surviving long in our climate in order to bugger up the ecology! We don't tend to get many sightings of iguanas, or boas in the Yorkshire countryside... LOL.

Although they never figured out what the Loch Ness Monster is - burmese python maybe???

Interesting fact...there is now a thriving colony of green iguanas down in Florida. It seems that a few people let their pets free and they started reproducing.

In New Orleans there is a Quaker parrot colony. I suspect the same thing happened.
