PVC pipe used for.....

Hey I was wondering if anyone has ever used pvc tubing or pipe to make a climbing branch or anything of the sort? Has anyone heard anything bad about it? I think it would work really well. You can form it to any shape you want and its hollow so it could double as a hide. It could also be painted if you wanted to. I am curious because I have access to it and the oven thing used to bend it. I am mostly worried about it being toxic. Oh yeah I most definitly would not be using any of the highly toxic pvc glue to bind the pieces I was thinking silicon. Anyone have any thoughts?

I don't know much about PVC pipes.
Haven't used these myself and I know basically nothing about them....

but just a suggestion. Why not use those paper towel tubs? They are great for hiding places I guess you can try stacking them up and make a branch out of it.....it's cheap and if they poo on it...just throw it out and use another one~

It would work juste fine. Some of the new reptile vivariums actually come with pvc as a component.
I am not sure how good solicone would be to hold the pieces together.

Simon, I am using the paper towel roles now I was just thinking something a little more permenant and custom.

why permenant? You'll have to wash it and bleach it..and bateria can grow on it...hahah
I don't know..I am too lazy....hate washing things and bleaching things....especially when you have around 1000 tubs to wash..hahah

It's quite easy to wash, just dunp it in your washing solution and let it soak a fwe minutes, then just rince it, everything slides off of it.

We use PVC type pipes (the ones for built in vacuum lines are thinner and cheaper) for hides for all our young snakes. They really like them - like to wedge themselves in and the long hide means it runs from the cool end to the warm end of the tub so they can choose their preferred heat zone and stay hidden. I haven't tried putting them together into climbing structures, but I like having something more permanent than paper towel tubes and they are easy to wash,

I actually watched a television show about PVC siding (on houses, and seeing as how pvc pips is made out of the same thing) PVC actually lets of a very toxic odorless fume. People that worked in the PVC factories, some have actually gotten cancer from it, among other sicknesses.

While manufacturing pvc may be hazardous i don't think using it is. it's used for water lines in houses.

i use it to make a little tunnel system for my leos. what i did was glued some extra carpet to the top and sides of the pipes and connected the pipes together in the way that fitted and looked best.

PVC is quite safe. I use it in my aquariums. The one that is NOT safe is ABS.

yes, I agree, I have feet and feet of PVC in my reef aquariums and if it is safe for reef fishes and inverts I wou ld assume it's also safe for lizards....and like someone said, it's used for human drinking water

I like the idea about paper towel tubes, less permanent, but definitely a godo thing to just throw it away when it's soiled

Just make sure it's not burning while your snakes are climbing on it and you should be fine. :)

you could also run low watt heat wire through the PVC pipeing to make it nice and warm for the snakes/lizards to rest on...thats what im going to be doing
