View Full Version : Racks Photos
Well since my web site is on the way I though that I'd take some photos of my rack system so that Invictus can help me put it up.
So here they are
Adult Rack System:
There are two racks in this photo. I have 4 of these racks in total for adults. The other two are 2 tubs higher.

rhino rats
albion emory rats
albion rosy boas
mexican rosy boas

I think that is it....from the top of my head....lol....
Cranwill...I have tried to take a photo from futher back...but since it looks more like a library it's hard to take all the racks...and the space is really tight. But I'll still go and try right now and show it to you in a few moments...hahah

Wow Simon - great photos - tons of snakes! You use lids on all your adult tubs for corns? Are the little wood peices under the tubs to hold them in place? Very interesting set up - thanks for sharing,

holy shhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii...
very nice !!!!!
Thanks all for the great comments~
you all are just too nice!
I don't deserve all these.
Mary v,
yeah I have lids for all the adults. Just in case they slip out or anything happens. I can't do it like the hatchling - yearling rack since they are bigger. So I don't want to use those little sliding things like the hatchlings and yearlings are using. So I use the lids. All I do is pull out the tub, open the lid (and hope not to get biten) and then feed. While they are trying to kill a thawed out mouse I clean up~ It's just that simple~
The wood pieces are for the yearlings (as the hatchlings only get glad ware boxes). There is a piece of wood glue on at the end of the rack so it tightens up the back. The front piece is moveable. So that all I have to do is slide that piece of wood out and the tub slides out perfectly. Doing it this way minimizes the chance of wood contracting and expanding. Since wood do that...if I didn't have these little pieces there it would either be too large or too small for the tub to fit in as time pass. So I think those little wood pieces are great~ (IMHO...lol)
ChokeOnSmoke,
LOL..now you see why I try to be as lazy as possible? It's not funny...but I have to feed every single day and clean every single day now. But mind you...I have 3 other jobs (full time in Bank of Montreal, part time in Vector Marketing and part time in Swiift Trade), well consider it 5 jobs if you include this snake breeding is a job. The 4th job is that I own a clothing manufacturing in China. And I am studying in Economics for my masters degree right now (hopefully graduating this year. And I might either go for a laws degree, biology degree or just for the heck of it.go for PhD in Econmics (and I hate economics lol...).
cranwill,
lol....yes in an appartment...hahaha and the best thing about it is that I don't have to pay hydro...the rent of 680/month already includes hydro bill....haha I think that my hydro bill cost around half of my rent. And a bonus for me..I live with 2 other people...so 680/3 = 227 a month. LOL~ Try and beat that...hahahah
Invictus,
man...the lav that you're getting is now starting to eat like a pig. Everytime I offer him a meal he snatches it and goes chopping it down like there is no tomorrow~
Once again
thanks all for the great comments!!

I thought I posted this already but I must be losing my mind. Why did you chose to build them to accomadate the cover? Why not just go flush with the container with out its cover?
Thanks,
Trevor
very nice set-up simon looks great.
Very nice setup... oh and whenever you get some neonate rosies, I'd really like 1. Where do you live, and how much would the albino rosies go for?

Trevor, I build mine to accomodate the lids too. I cannot have a box without a cover. Plus, I'm absent-minded as hell! It means a little bit more time when feeding, but I feel much better with a lid on the box. I often take the box out and set it on a table-- no time to look for lids. Some of my snakes will hammer you when they're hungry. Nothing like getting a face full of FL. king when you slide the box (without a lid) out. One time is enough.
:Mark
rynwilliams,
Here you go. Here are the photos of the albino emory rats. Trust me they are much much prettier than these bad quality photos..

I'll take more when I have time~
Invictus,
lol....I do sleep....but only on an average of 4 hours a night...sometimes less....but yeah I sleep..hahahaha
Mark,
LOL....those are not empty...they are actually full...just that I took them to cleaning..they're soaking in bleach....hahah they are actually all full...infact I think that I have some extra tubs running around here somewhere....lol..
Trevor,
Yup like Mark said. Even though I mostly work with corns only they do jump out when the container is slide out. The first one that I build didn't have those lids on...but man...it's worse than hell...might save me some time..but I have had snakes escaping from those once in a while. Plus being bitten right when the tub is slide out isn't fun....so opening the lids and putting food in may take a bit more time...but it's worth it...hahah
672,
Thanks! I live in London Ontario. The albino rosies is going for $500CDN for males and $650 for females. I don't think that I'll have any left next year. Roy and Ian already reserved some....lol...and the thing is that they don't produce too much...only around 6 a year....and I want to keep back a female or two....so I don't think that I'll have any avalible in 2004...maybe in 2005 I'll have some avalible in the market...hahah
Thanks all for the great comments!!
672,
Here is a link to my mexicians. I love those so much too....lol..I love all of them....oh well..

Holy. Simon I had no idea you had so many. I mean, I knew you had a lot, but .... wow! Did you build the racks yourself? That's so amazing. I'd like to get one of those racks. Great stuff! :)

Oh yea, forgot to ask. Do you breed your own feeders? Your bill must be nuts if you dont... Mind you, I don't think it matters when you have five jobs! You're crazy, man. I love it!
Beautiful snakes, too.
-Tammy R
Tammy,
Thanks~
yeah I did build those racks.
I didn't build the blue ones cause I wanted to 'steal' the basic concept on how to build them. Then the rest of them I did myself. It was actually a lot easier than I though....hahahah it only took me around 2 hours to build one (if that much) but of course preparing those boards were a bit more time. Othat than that..it's completely easy~
oh..about the mice....lol...yeah I don't breed my own feeders...they stink too much for me..and my gf is really scared of mice...if I have one live mice in my house...well....I'll see you in the other dimension......hahahah
Thanks for the great comments again!

Truly impressive Simon. Isn't renting all inclusive a grand thing!
Steve
I'm wondering a couple things...how big are the hatchling and adult tubs, and how often and how many rodents do you buy?
rg
stevesemerko,
oh yeah~
that's what I love in an appartment...everything included...hahaa and taking away hydro from me is like saving me big bucks already...hahahah
rwg,
hatchling tubs are just those glad ware containers. They're not too big..maybe....2 gallon? Don't konw..just those tall ones from glad...they're perfect for hatchlings.
yearling tubs are longer. Like those shoe box sized tubs. They're around 10 gallon long.
adult tubs are wider and longer. Those are 28 quarts from Sterlite. I like Sterilite more than rubber made because I think that they look a bit better...more rounded instead of just a box with 4 corners....sorry...just my preference...no difference if you think that rubbermaid is better....
how many rodents do I buy? I get them in x000s. Last time I got around 4000 mice...and it weighted 38Kg.....and it was around a month ago...and it's almost gone now...have to get some more soon~ but yeah it's burmation time...so feeding = less...= happy...hahahah

I'll just leave the whole sweatshop in China thing alone and just hope I misunderstood...
Nice set up though. Are all those wires any kind of a fire safety concern? Are the heaters all plugged in separately (I mean are there extention cords and power bars all over the place?). If you were to have a dedicated room could you get away with just heating the room to 82 or is that stuff you're using necessary to provide a thermal gradient? I am fire-phobic, can't go to bed without making sure the stove and coffee maker aren't still on, can't imagine sleeping with so many heaters and all that wood, wood chips, newspaper...freaks me out thinking about it but I must admit that I havent used the stuff you're using there so I don't know how it works or how safe it is.
