ORANGEBURG, S.C. - A man had an uninvited house guest this week — a 3-foot alligator. Michael Hunt found the alligator in his garage Monday afternoon.

"He stood up on all fours, opened his mouth and growled," Hunt said. "I hit the button to close the garage door to keep him in there."

Hunt rushed into his house and called 911. Orangeburg County Animal Control and Orangeburg Department of Public Safety officers removed the reptile. It was relocated in one of the county swamps, Hunt said.

It's not clear how or why the juvenile reptile made its way into the garage.

Hunt said he was most concerned about the safety of children who could have stumbled across the alligator.

The average adult alligator is capable of reaching more than 13 feet in length and can weigh in excess of 600 pounds. Mature alligators have a crushing power of 3,000 pounds per square inch in their jaws.

For one thing, I think its kinda funny this guy called 911 because of a 3 ft alligator. But I guess thats what you do when you're reptile-ignorant. :D

Uhhh...I know how...

"I hit the button to close the garage door to keep him in there."

I also like how the alligator "stood up on all fours."

he shouldn't be concerned for the safety of children if they are sneaking around in his garage, they're only in there to jack his car stereo, damn punk kids! lol

We've had them walk across the yard a few times. But they've never come in the garage before. Thats pretty cool though.

When I lived in Florida alligators of that size were so common ppl didn't even pay attention to them at all. You just walked right by unless it was in your house or something but I can't imagine anyone who lives in Florida calling 9 11 over a 3 foot gator unless they are a tourist. Sounds like anti reptile BS to me. "hmmm I could just let the little guy walk back out of my garage or I can lock him in it and call 911."

A friend of mine used to use her carpet python as a theft deterrent in her car.
