I will be getting a digital camera through work soon and I can get basically any camera I want under $800. I was just wondering what cameras everyone would suggest I get.

I have heard many good things about the Canon A70, does anyyone agree this is a good quality camera?

Thanks,
Ryan

I will definitely be watching this thread. I am shopping for a digicam too.
I have been looking at a Olympus 2.0 mp, can't remember the model number. Might not be top of the line but it should do for whatever I would use it for. Unfortunately, I don't have much of a budget. 800$ should get you some really good hardware .

sounds like a cam that you would get in a box of cracker jacks. Does it have a built in whistle too ?

I use the Canon A70 (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_a70.asp). Amazing camera! The A80 will be coming out soon if you have some extra money. The A80 has the exact same features as the A70 except it is 4.0 megapixels.
Here are some links to posts I have made using photos from my A70.

Thanks Ryan, those are some great pics!!! I obviously don't need a $1000+ camera to get some great high quality pics.

The A80 actually is already out and isn't too much more than the A70.

I like the sony CD mavica line of cameras look at my web page to see samples of the cd 300.

what i really like (besides the quality) is the fact it uses cdrw (rewritable) disks which are dirt cheap and hold 180 megs.

Canon's A series is really good. Get the A70 or the A80, and use the extra cash to get a bigger memory card etc.

I also suggest the Canon A80. I just bought one several weeks ago and love it! So many features, and ya gotta love the swivel lcd. :D

Check it out here: http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/a80/index.html

A few pics I have taken with it:

I use the Canon Powershot A40. When I got it it was starting at $499 but I imagine it has gone down quite a bit in price since then. Here are a few pics, there are more in my gallery ;)

A80 runs $599.99
A70 runs $449.99
A60 runs $329.99

I'd get the 4.0mp A80, also has a flip screen, very handy for pics inside a terrrarium, or cage.....indispensible.....need more info, check my website, not sure if it's been updated in the last few days though, www.friendlyfotos.com
