View Full Version : Who has the most snakes/reptiles?
I've been noticing that some people have a large family. Mine is just starting out. But it will quickly grow. I have already made the decision to get a spare room just for for them. I guess thats something to look for when building or buying a house.
If possible please include a pic.
I don't know who has the most, but it's not me. We have a spare room or two, but I think to get the kind of numbers to have the most you need a building dedicated to herps.

I have 3 spare rooms in my house, and a finished basement. However I only have 3 herps. But if you want to donate I'll fill my rooms..:medsanta:

There are some people on this site with 600+ colubrids. The coludrid breeders will probably be the members with the biggest collections. There are also a few ball python breeders that are into the hundreds too.

i have given my herps my finished basement. they take up alot of room but i also live with them in my parents house.
I have quite a few herps from ball pythons to savannahs to my caimans and my adult and baby amarican aligator.
I need alot of space the most for my burms and my amarican aligator. But of all the herps my dad's adult aligator snapping turtles the most water space.
here is a pic of my biggest space taker.
enjoy!!
:D
I have 13 at the moment.. and I am proud of each one. :)

I only have two snakes (for now) but their living space has too much height (the shop only has one size) soooo I am halfing them to make room for two more snakes, there is lots of room in them to spare, I have already made one a lot smaller for my bp and a lot of space is wasted there. They are and will all be in my room and they take up a lot of it! :D

does this count the offspring they get after their breeders give birth and theyre going to sell? or just the snakes they keep as ''pets''

At the moment I have about 300+ pythons. I've lost count. I have more room now that I've sold off all my burmese.

Five, soon to be eight snakes, and 28 toads. Not a lot, but that's the way I like it. I almost have no time now as it is!

Only 28 herps (27 snakes and 1 gecko) right now, but I'm sure that'll change soon as Invictus and I usually get about 5 herps a month. :D

Well in our house we have 39 herps all together. :)
(plus 4 dogs, 7 cats, 5 ferrets, 4 pigs, 1 bun, 15 rats, 2 gerbils, 1 prairie dog, 1 ground squirrel, and 2 really annoying african walking catfish!) ;)

I'd like to see how a catfish could be annoying. :) Tammy- 28 toads?? What kinds?
All one kind. They're actually great basin spadefoots. I'm breeding them this spring for the Vancouver aquarium. (Yes, I know they're illegal to keep and breed, but I didn't know what they were when I got them.) I'm not going to let them go now, because they eat off tweezers and are not used to predators anymore. They just let me pick them up and don't even care at all.
They're the neatest little toads though! I was trying to get the desert centre in our area to take them, but they already have a population and were reluctant to add more toads to the area. So... i'm keeping them as pets, and when they breed (which I can't really prevent) i'm donating some tadpoles to the aquarium for a display. They can't seem to find any anywhere else. They're great little guys. :)

I have a lot, but I will never be a contender for having the most. I don't want to become overwhelmed with a few hundred animals. I don't want to have so many animals that I cannot monitor each of them easily, or pay enough attention to husbandry, or worse yet... lose joy and start to view some of it as a chore  My collection will be not growing too much (still have a few to be paired up over time so it isn't halted) for quite a few years at least (not including babies that come and go).

Weird! I've never heard of them before so just punched them in the search engine. LOL I'm also interested in how they are annoying :p

The most we've ever had at one time was 228.
Now, we have much less (97 at last count - not counting babies), but most are much larger. We've kept 70 kinds of snakes, 15 kinds of turtles / tortoises and handfull of most everything else.
Currently upstairs, we have large display enclosures and fish tanks in our living room, a tortoise room and a general reptile room.
In the basement, we have 3 rooms in which we keep the large monitors, large caimen, big snapping turtle, box turtles as well as a seperate cold room for brumating colubrids in the winter.
We keep all of the boas and pythons at the Scales Zoo building, in large display enclosures.

I am a firm believer in quality, rather than quantity. I finally got myself below 60. Gave away at least a dozen Copperheads (which I seem to get overrun with when it is warm).
ScalesZoo, ya need some pointy snakes :D
