I got bitten by a croc it took 4 months to heal and a year after the bite I still could feel some pain, at that time I attributed the infection to my neglect, however now I fully understand theirs something going on with this specie s bite.

Yep getting you here they have weird bacteria...

A friend of mine got bit by a water monitor last year and even if he desinfected the wound it went to the bone he had to take the strongest antibiotics to treat it. I've seen that you are from Montreal .. his name is Jesse Deluca you might knwo him?

Maybe the tooth caused some nerve damage? With the length and shape of the teeth I've read that they have, I would think it is quite possible that it contacted a nerve, or nerve ending, and that may be why your arm got numb.

What first aid treatment do you suggest for monitor bites, taking into consideration the bacteria that is present in their mouths?

I've never been bit (yet), but we have a can of bactin, an anti bacterial spray for open wounds - and I keep it in the first aid supplies near the monitor lizards.

Damn that is crazy. One tooth? Wow you have to give those varanids a lot of respect. Amazing animals.

So the car ride girl did get bit.....mmm. Sorry to hear it but I am not that surprised. So she ended up splitting up the pair. That is unfortunate.

I got tagged by a 3 1/2' water monitor that bled quite a lot.
My hand swelled up pretty good too. It was quite a few years ago,but I seem to remember getting a little feverish afterwards.
I believe my monitor was wild caught,you don't mention whether yours was or not.
There have been tests done on komodo saliva from captive raised animals as well as the WC's and there seems to be no risk of the potentially deadly effects associated with the bacteria laden saliva of the wild ones.
Also,they found multiple types of bacteria in the dragon's saliva but did not identify any type of venom.
Crocs are very pretty animals but like you say can put quite a hurtin' on you.
There was a petstore owner here in Florida who had his thumb removed by one of the pair he kept at the shop!
