What is better for an adult Ball a 4'x2' or 3'x2' cage height will be around 16-18"

I'm looking for ideas before I start to build? Just curious?

If you can 4x2 would be better, throw in a few hides and it would do nicely.

as mark129er said, if you can do the 4x2 that would be awesome. We are still kinda in the process of waterproofing a 4x2x2 cage for a 3-3.5 ft male bp......:)

sapphire moon-- do you think that size will be too big for corns? I'd like to beable to stack them.

Depends on the size of the corn. If you put a little baby corn in there then that is going to be absolutely HUGE! lol. But if it's atleast 2-3 feet (which within 2 months our baby corn grew that big) then I'd say go for it. But make sure to put enough hides and hide like (like foliage close to the ground) stuff in there!

4x2, in my opinion, is WAY more space than an adult bp or corn will ever need. For both of those snakes I would say 18"x36"with a height of 12" would be not only fine but very comfortable.

I always see people saying that if you have a tiny snake not to give it to big of enclosure. What i always think to my self is, wouldnt the bigger the tank the more free they would feel? It would make them think there in the wild kind of, and not liek caged animals..get what im saying..prove me wrong, which someone will probably do :), if im saying something dumb.

Ok, well not to prove you wrong BUT, ;)

No, no, just to put in a word for the other side of that argument...

Snakes don't need to feel FREE, they need to feel <u>secure</u>. A larger enclosure "could" make the snake too stressed and it may not "want" to utilize its entire large enclosure. This may mean that it won't travel all the way to the other side to get on the heat source and etc. Being stressed may also lead it to go off feed.

Not the rule, just some possibilities. I'm sure for every ball python that would do poorly in a large enclosure; there is also one that would be fine.... who knows? We can only speculate, try things and learn from what we see.... :)

Totally agree with you there Tim.

4 feet is too much in my opinion too.

I keep a 6 1/2 foot boa in a 4x2x2 cage and i wont give her a bigger cage till she's prob 8 feet. Still lots of room.
