What do you feed your dog and/or cats?
We feed our Iams and have just found a newer product called Natural Balance.......
In the packet of Natural Balance it said that.........
wheat, soy, sunflower oil, dairy, and corn, can cause animals to have allergic reactions like chewing at their feet, excessive scratching, hair loss, and chewing at their tail.........
Iams or Science Diet. We switch every now and then and give them some variety.

I feed my Alaskan Malamute Iams or Technical. She love both.
Eagle Pack Holistic Blend. Great for large breed dogs.
The dogs get Wellness and the cat gets Innova.
Most foods (even veterinary diets) contain all sorts of fillers (such as the above mentioned), as well as a lot of by products. Both of Wellness and Innova contain only human quality foods and no fillers. This way you only have to feed half as much because it is a lot richer.
For those of you that feed Iams, you may find this interesting...

Wellness Dog and Cat Foods Rival Human Food in Ingredient Quality
Wellness represents a new generation of uniquely formulated, all-natural pet food which rivals human food in quality, nutrition and the cooking process. The primary protein source in the Wellness line is human grade deboned chicken, human grade Atlantic whitefish or hormone-free lamb, depending on the formula. In addition, these top-of-the-line dog and cat foods contain fresh fruits and vegetables, healthy grains, and vitamins and minerals. Another major differentiator is that unlike most commercial dog food manufacturers that rapidly extrude their food, Old Mother Hubbard slowly oven bakes its Wellness Super5Mix dog foods and treats to preserve and enrich the nutrients, and to enhance the aroma.
As rates of feline and canine allergies, cancers and diseases continue to rise, the link between pet nutrition and health is being examined more closely than ever. Healthy thoughtful ingredients in Wellness, like fresh fruits and vegetables, provide essential antioxidants that protect and strengthen your pet's immune system for a healthy, long life.
Wellness does not contain any rendered animal fats, meat by-products, wheat, corn or white rice and also does not contain any artificial colors, flavors or preservatives of any kind.

well I dont have a cat or a dog but i feed my hedgehog cat food. Im not sure what brands because the only thing i look at is the ingredents and nutritional content. It has to be made with human grade ingredents and the first 2-4 ingredents must be meats.

Science Diet has some by-products.
If you really want to feed the best things for your dog or cat, you should cook their food yourself. I know a nutritionist who has been doing this for quite some time and damn her dogs are nice and active.
She cooks their vegetables and meat.

Pedigree Lamb and rice for our dogs as it is the only thing our 9yr old Bouvier can stomach, she'll get violently ill if we switch it, so the others are stuck with what only she can eat, as they all share and the chow chow gets nasty hair loss due to allergies so the lamb and rice work great for us, The ACD on the other hand i think will eat just about anything and has a stomach of steel. The siamese cat is fed Iams and some sort of fancy VERY expensive wet food, i'll tell ya it looks better than the paty (sp?) i buy....lol
The cats get Eagle Hairball and Eagle Kitten, and the dog gets mostly Mountain Dog Food (it's a prepared BARF diet) and whatever other raw meat/bones that we can pick up on sale.

Nutrience for the cat and the ferret..
nutrience for the dog and cats.
Linds, with regards to your above post, Eagle Pack Holistic Select, contrary to your information, does not contain ANY fillers. www.eaglepack.com if you're interested. I followed your link to Wellness and the food looks more like a one-a-day vitamin then a dog food. From the research that I'd done before I got my dog (chocolate lab), being a large breed dog, and prone to being both overweight and/or with joint problems, I did A LOT of research, and the two foods that I focused on from having spoken to vets and friends that happen to be top doberman breeders, were Eagle Pack and Wellness. Eagle Pack won due to the fact that they had a holistic blend in their dog food lineup. That and Willow enjoyed Eagle Pack more.

i feed my cat 9 lives, she wont eat anything else
Sapphire, BOTH companies are American. Eagle Pack is based in Mishawaka, Indiana, and Wellness out of Lowell, Massachussetts.
In fact, I can do you one better and tell you that Pet World in Lawrence, KS (which is about 30 miles north of you) carries Eagle Pack products. Their phone number is (785) 841-7476. If you're looking for Wellness, you'll have to travel a bit farther, to Shawnee (about 45 miles northeast of you) to a store called Land of Paws. Their phone number is (913) 341-1011.
Wellness is very expensive but in my oppinion the best commercial food available. I can't get it near me, so I feed Nutro Max. The puppy is on Pedigree Pro Plan, just because that is what the breeder was feeding her and it would be stressful to change her food at the same time as her environment. She will be switched to Nutro Max when she moves up to adult food.
If i was able to do so, I would feed Raw. It used to be called the BARF diet (Bones and Raw Food) whihc you prepare yourself. That way you know exactly what your dog is eating and there are no fillers.
Some have mentioned about allergies, my dog has an allergy to Plastic, and as such can not eat out of a plastic dish. If you have problems with allergies, try switching to a metal dish before you change their food.

I tried Iams, Science Diet and a few other choice brands but my Lab only likes the cheap stuff like Kibbles and Gravy Train. I even coated the food with a little gravy, egg or oil. He will actually lick the food instead of eat. But he's a weird dog all around.
We had to be picky with our food because of my ex-wifes Akita. They are supposed to avoid soy based foods.

Lol that reminds me of our late mutt lexx, he could pick out all the grains of seasoned rice with out taking any kibble. One time there was a mouse in his bowl (munching on the kibble) and he would quietly go up to the bowl, take a piece of kibble, go to a safe distance away from the bowl so as not to disturb the mouse and eat the kibble, then repeat.

hey i work at a pet store and my manager showed me how to read the ingredience/protien % and all that stuff...basically the 3 best foods we sell are nutrience...wellness...and 1st choice..so if u have a possible way of getting any of those they are all really good....nutrience and 1st choice use alot of meat for protien as opposed to corn...espeshally good for cats...why would a cat eat corn!?! they are mad carnivores! oh well.....i say as long as u dont give ur dog "kibbles n bits" then thats a step in the right direction...lol
