View Full Version : Ptyas genus
Saw pics of one subspecies on Dr. Fry's site and went searching for more info. I'm having trouble finding much though, other than a few sparse referenses. Any care, maintenance and availability info would be much appreciated.
Probably saw Ptyas carinatus. Haven't seen those often in captivity. Maybe the people who bought Angus's Ptyas dhumnades can be of help.
Being an uncommon genus, you'd pretty much have to eye it by reading up on it's wild biology and local climates.
Or Dr Fry can enlighten us all about how they kept the P. carinatus in captivity.

They are easy to keep in captivity, just need large spacious cages (equivalent to whay you'd use for a king cobra of the same size) and they'll eat just about anything. They can be a real handful, or at least wild caught ones can be (we caught all of ours and they were demons!)

Dr. Fry,
Have you heard of anyone actually bothering to breed them?
Captive-bred youngsters would be very interesting to work with.
Cheers, mate!

Going by Ptyas mucosus as comparison, I can't imagine it'd be too hard, I reckon they'd breed like Mormons. ;-p
