Baby Jamaicans :D

On stage number one is Slowpoke. '01 female...

She is almost strictly arboreal, only comes down pretty much because that's where I leave her food :p
<img src="http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/508/22slowpokeperched.jpg">

Think someone thinks they are a ball python..lol! She ALWAYS has her head hiding... if you coax her head out of her coils its only for her to go hide it in another part of her :p :rolleyes:
<img src="http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/508/22shyslowpoke.jpg">

Took forever, but I managed to capture a pic of her head :p
<img src="http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/508/22slowpokehead.jpg">

Now on stage number two is her no name '01 little boy :o

Complete opposite... this little monster bites at everything, even himself! The lighting isn't good enough for closeups in his area so I had to prop a big flashlight on the other end...lol...makes him look like he's in a dream for some reason :p
<img src="http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/508/22mj01.jpg">

Slow growing no doubt! He's actually the larger of the two (which almost makes me wonder if the sexes weren't switched up?) 2 years old...

Thanks for taking a gander at the show, hope you enjoyed :)

They are awesome Linds, I especially like the male. If you ever want to sell them or that female BCI from matt or that Guyan you know who to ask ;)

Thanx for posting the pics, they are definitely on my wish list

Lindsay,
Would it be possible for you to get relatively accurate current lengths and weights for both of them? I know it's not easy, but if you could do so, I'd appreciate it. If not, no big deal.
I am very curious as to their actual growth rate. There is not a heck of a lot of information generally available about the species, and I like to know everything I can about 'em.

Thank you very much.

Simon,
I can definitely get you the weights on them...lol... I'll try for the lengths as well but can't promise anything :o

Sean,
Thanks! :)

Simon,
I just weighed the little monsters and they tipped the scales at 122 grams for the male, and 90 grams for the female (my scale is accurate to the gram). I don't keep frequent weight charts on anyone anymore, but I do occassionally weigh someone here or there out of curiosity. If it helps any, March '02 my male weighed 14 grams and the female weighed 13 grams :) I can't find my tape measure so there wasn't even attempt at getting any lengths tonight :confused:

Ok so we have subflavs, innornatus, and striatus

So, who's working Cuban Boas...?? I know there must be some around as I saw some in the pet trade a few years back.
I saw some adult Angulifer at Basil zoo in West Germany a few years back...they were spectacular
but pretty big too...Bigger than Haitians and Jamaicans.. around 8 foot or more
i've heard they can be pretty nasty but I've never known anyone keeping them
I wouldn't mind a pair of babies to raise up..
Anyone know who's got these in the great white north?:)

Thank you, Lindsay - I'm going to write that down right now. It's nice to have some frame of reference. I wonder how big the '99 ones are? I don't know anyone who has any from that litter.

Yes Roy, I think you're right. I'm sure that there are some E. angulifer up here. I've seen them mentioned by someone, but I cannot remember whom or where. Damn this memory of mine!!
They seem to be another traditionally "aggressive" specie. For example, in Carl Kauffeld's classic '69 book, "SNAKES: The Keeper And The Kept", he calls the snake "the Cuban Boa or Maja" and makes mention of the fact that the native Cuban people have a saying, "muy maja" to describe an irritable person.
Like most snakes, I'll bet that captive-bred babies would eventually calm down or at least become more tractable over time.

LOL yeah I actually had a thread titled Peekaboo with about 5 or so pics. She ends up with poses like that pretty much all the time, she's so shy. She always hides then eventually gets curious enough to peak out. She's a funny lil girl :p
