Eye cap problems?

My buddies BP just shed and it retained one of the eyecaps. How important is it to get it removed? Could he wait until the next shed and make sure the humidity is up? it about 4 months between sheds right now. If it should be removed whats the best way to do this? Also what should the humidity be at in general?

it might be worth a soak. put a damp towel in his hidespot so he can go on that, if that doesnt work then soak

I've always had good luck removing stuck eye caps by just touching them with a piece of masking tape. It's a lot safer than poking around with tweezers. Soaking is fine but you can't see when the eyecap actually comes off.

Yes, it is very important to remove the eyecap, do not wait till the next shed.

Tape can be pretty dangerous, you stand a good chance of injuring the snakes eye. If soaking doesn't usually work either, because the snake is not going to stick his head under the water. Take just a drop ov mineral oil on your finger and rub it gently onto the eye. wait about 30 minutes, and then take a warm, wet Q-tip and slide it gently across the eyecap. It should come right off. It is not good to leave it on until the next shed, so go ahead and remove it.

I've used both masking tape and mineral oil on unshed eyecaps with much success...

just make ABSOLUTELY sure there is an eyecap that need removing before you use tape.

i have also heard to take a small towel or face cloth and wet it down, and put it in a rubbermaid, or some smaller enclosure, put the snake in with it and leave it for awhile. The snake will prob end up rubbing the eyecap off on the wet towel.

Cain had the same problem with his last shed....one eye cap and a little on his head. The problem is, he's real skittish when I get near his head, and the damp rag hasn't worked yet either...

Any other suggestions?
