my new BP finally ate for me today after a few unsuccessful attempts....she was hitting the mouse but would always let go and wouldn't actually eat them until today. (any reason for this??) I guess it's not really important anymore, but I'm still curious. She's a couple months old and eating fuzzies.
thanks!
The mice you're feeding her are alot bigger than fuzzies...;)

It could be that she wasn't hungry and was striking the mouse to get it away from her. My boa does that sometimes when she isn't hungry enough to eat.
sometimes they're just plain ol' clumsy

My bp has missed strikes. As soon as she misses one time, she shows no more interest.

I have seen the missing strikes then showing no interest thing too but I just leave the mouse in there and mine picks it up when he's ready and gobbles it up.
As for clumsy yeah he can be that way too only he misses and hits my hand more often than not, lol.

Could be you were feeding fuzzies (unless they were fuzzy rats?). These snakes are born taking at least hopper mice or rat pinks. Was she just striking at them or was she grabbing and constricting then letting go? If she was just striking then she wasn't hungry or was threatened.

I heat the tank with an UTH and a light so temps aren't a problem. She is actually eating hoppers, not fuzzies, that was my mistake. She is DEFINETLY clumsy, not the most graceful snake you'll ever see :)

I dont think they meant the temps of your cage, but they meant how are you heating up the mice? and its quite possible the mouse could have been to cold.

i put the mice by the heat lamp to warm them up...they feel slightly warmer than room temp. Is that good enough or should i be warming them more?
