Hi All,

Looking for any help I can get to encourage my Mantella expectata (blue legged mantella) to breed. I've had these frogs for 9 months and although they show all the signs, they have yet to "consumate" the arrangement! I have 3 (2.1) in a 20 gallon terrarium, about a third vegetation (plants, moss, etc.) and wood, a third of pebbled shoreline and about a third shallow water. The two males call like crazy, the female is hugely round with eggs, but no luck. I've tried "drying" the tank out and them flooding it, but still nothing. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Duncan

Thanks SilverTongue, I had forgotten about Sinatra; Jeepers Creepers, which tune do you think I should use?

My "Froggy" Valentine . . . I Get a Kick Out of You . . . A "Froggy" Day (in London Town) or (Fruit)Fly Me to the Moon . . . ?

Although a good Canadian should probably pull out his Diana Krall CD's and play a little mellow jazz.

Oh . . . and I'd already opened up my last bottle of D.o.M. '02 (Drosophila of Melanogaster, cultured just 2 weeks ago) and it didn't work. The two males went to town, ate 20 flies a piece, and then just staggered around croaking about the good old days in Madagascar. The female told them to get with the times and headed off to a club for some hip hop.

Thanks for the suggestions though,

Duncan

Hi Duncan, two suggestions are introduce a flowing stream, and increase your group size, mantellas in my experience do best in colonies and are very interesting to watch when they get down to breeding.

Good luck!
