Tara, Aspidites are considered primitive to the extent that some don't even consider them a true python. But what IS a true python? Unfortunately I'm clueless to that too. Might have to do with DNA analysis.

Thanks everyone. Aspidites are considered primitive because they lack heat sensing pits and premaxillary teeth, and dig burrows which some consider primitive. They also have strange behaviour like lying upside down, holding their heads at weird angles and sometimes when being handled going as limp as a wet noodle. And before any of you smart ***'s pipe up, no they are not dead or dying and i have just not clued in yet. Anyway thanks again for enjoying the pics.
