View Full Version : Count the Chameleons!

Well, Wuntu Menny and DNA Reptiles were right, it took two weeks for these little buggers to finally all hatch. Much to my disappointment, I had a few stillborns and one egg that had nothing in it, but I ended up with 28 (12 males, 16 females) of these little woggley-eyed monsters. They eat like crazy, they poop everywhere, they are very time consuming, but I’m in LOVE! If they just stayed this size, I’d keep them all.

I’ve also spent the last week trying to get a decent group shot of them all, but they just DON’T sit still! There are, in fact, 28 chameleons in this pic.

And a few other fun pics I’ve taken:

EEEEEEEEEEE....

Soooo cute Trace!!!
When they are that little, how do you feed them? Is it fruit flies at that size? Do you put thier food into a bowl, or does it free roam?

I can't stop looking at the pictures!!!

Chris: Don't say about the leos! I have NO CLUE about breeding them. As for sexing my chameleons... the males have a something called a tarsal spur on their back feet, the females don't. It looks like a little knob or growth and is visible from birth.

Kim: Cripes, once they absorbed their egg sacs, they started eating and haven't stopped! I'm feeding fruit flies, 1/8" crickets and 1/4" crickets for now. I put some of the bugs in a bowl with calcium on the bottom but most prey items are dusted and just thrown into the tank. On the whole I'm not keen on cup feeding chameleons.

Cheers!

Trace- I count 13 maybe 14 in that first pic. Are there really 28? :) Have fun with the little buggers. ARe you keeping them all in the same container for now, or seperating them out? I found that smaller groups lead to better survival. Provided that you have the space. The little ones crash real fast.
I bet you've already got a few picked out that you want to keep!
