not good at all as snakes only have 1 lung not like us as we have 2 lungs after time the second hand smoke could kill the snake.

This is by far the weirdest post I've ever seen on ssnakess, what is wrong with you.

You should probly not smoke around the snakes.

Invictus
11-02-03, 01:14 PM
Ok, I've heard some stupid questions asked around here, but this one takes the cake.

Gaboon, you are proof of the theory that weed corrodes the brain. You should not smoke ANYTHING around your snakes. I can't even believe you had to ask this.

Nobody smokes anything in our house EVER. I go outside to smoke cigs, even in -30 degree weather. I wonder how many members smoke cigarettes in their houses?

maiden_canada
11-02-03, 02:54 PM
hahaha, giving your snake a case of the munchies might be good once in a while

Phox
11-02-03, 03:01 PM
LOL, A snake with the munchies.
If your snake stops eating mice, I would definately try Cheetos or Twinkies :p
Seriously though...I would think that any kind of smoke would be bad for them.

Sorry MAN , stupid idea. I had a guy once come up to me and ask me where he could get some $h!t (weed) .
As a joke I went and picked up a moose turd cut it into a square with a razor folded tinfoil over it and gave it to him as hashish. He opend the tinfoil to look at it ,said ''good enough'' threw me 20 bucks and took off . I hope he liked his ****. hahaha
The moral of this story is if you keep smoking grass around your snake , one day your going to be so stoned like this guy .................................................. .................................................. .......................................Why am I even writing this this guys probably too stoned to even read. Hahahahaha!

Gaboon

Thanks.

We smoked in the other room and since we had smoked in the same room before we asked we opened the window to air it out and put the fan on.

Wow...alot of people were really harsh in this post...

I know alot of the members of ssnakess.com smoke a little bud now and then, I don't know why there were such rude comments...

Besides, it wasn't a stupid question, you honestly wanted to know for the wellbeing of your snake and that's good :)

Glad you took it to another room :)

I draw the line @ smoking near my snake but she does seem to love soaking in a beer/cocaine mixture once a month. Calms her right down, I highly advise it.

LOL!!!

I didn't see any harsh comments...?

Dude, don't smoke anything indoors, especially weed, stinks up everything!!! LOL

AND to the original poster-
Why are you posting that you smoke weed in a public forum?

B-Rep
11-02-03, 11:16 PM
The original poster was concerned for his snakes well being. He required information on a reptile, and turned to a reptile enthusiast website! -where better to ask then here?-

Wether it is regarding flying monkeys or pot is irrelevent.

What's important is the well being of the Snake.

I just found it amusing that he'd post that he smokes pot, an illegal substance, in a public forum that's all.

T.O-SK8TER

Haha pots not illegal anymore, atleast not here! I myself don t use it!

t.o skater, where in canada do you live? im 90% sure its illegal everywhere in canada and the US. they were considering partial/legalization (im not sure exactley what the specifications were though) but it never was. im in BC and its still illegal here. maybe im wrong, but i doubt it

SerpentLust
11-03-03, 12:19 AM
Um, he's right, it's legal here. Not completely 100% smoke it everywhere legal...but it's been bumped down in the offence scale. I think you only get a bit of a fine now...

not a stupid question at all, but use some common sense. Just say you smoke cigarettes. No need to come out and say "weed"

Zoe

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't some snakes have a very small, non functional second lung?
Yep, you're right... but it makes no difference if the snake has one lung or one working and one nonfuctional lung in this case.

t.o skater, where in canada do you live? im 90% sure its illegal everywhere in canada and the US. they were considering partial/legalization (im not sure exactley what the specifications were though) but it never was. im in BC and its still illegal here. maybe im wrong, but i doubt it
Pot is no longer illegal in Ontario, if you have up to (I believe) 30 grams. It isn't legal yes, but you won't be charged or arrested if you have it on you.

The question is a little clued out, but it isn't stupid. In fact, it's perfectly legitimate... it's responses like these that make noobs afraid to ask questions that might be considered "stupid".

i asked my cousin who lives in ottawa if pot is illegal and he said theyre trying to pass a bill right now or something? i guess me and him are both wrong :) im surprised i haven't heard about this though, it seems like a big thing

DarkHunter
11-03-03, 02:48 AM
I live in ottawa.....and zoe...this is the first time i've heard about it actully passing? I know they were working on it...but it still hasnt passed as far as i know.

The whole thing is still in the process of being modified, but as the law stands, pot is not illegal anymore, up to 30 grams. It isn't legal yet, but no one will be arrested or charged for having 30 grams of marijuana on them.

Zoe

DarkHunter

Maybe thats true i wouldnt know....But to be honest...alot of my friends deal and personally i dont do drugs anymore but i use to see alot of that stuff and i've seen friends get caught with alot of weed on them before and nothings ever really happend but a slap on the hand. Now yes....this is my friends stupidity from not learning their lessons after the frist time but they get caught time and time again and still nothing and that was before this whole legallizing issue was raised here. So even if they DO or have passed it....it really wont change much....maybe thats why i havn't heard anything about it.

Well, much of the point is to regulize the industry. Ideally, if pot were legal, there would be no need for dealers to deal (or at the very least, not in such great numbers), because you could buy marijuana in any convenience store. Pot would (again, ideally) be taxed, so there would undoubtedly be some black market stuff going around, but nothing like we see today. Not to mention problems such as smuggling, drug wars, drug raids, adding toxins to marijuana to produce higher yields, dealing to children, adding other substances to marijuana to make it hallucinogenic or more addictive, etc, would be virtually eliminated.

And then the whole medical marijuana issue comes into play. As it is, only a few hundred people have legal access to marijuana for medical purposes. If marijuana were legalized, then many more people would be able to use it for medical (as well as recreational) purposes.

*sigh*

Pot IS illegal. It's just de-criminalized. There is a HUGE difference. If you get a fine for it, it's not legal, is it? All it means is, you cannot be arrested and detained under the Criminal Code for possession of less than a certain amount.

Here's how I understand the pot situation in Canada. It's vague in my memory, so I may be wrong.

The courts ruled that posession laws needed to be reformed to at least allow it for medicinal use. They gave the government a fixed amount of time (1 year maybe?) to re-write the laws. The government did nothing. At the end of the year, the courts began simply not convicting people on simple posession charges. It's neither decriminalized nor illegal...it's in limbo.

Now, in the meantime, the government is trying to put a reform through that would decriminalize simple posession. It remains to be seen if that will pass.

As for the original question...I dont know if reptiles have THC receptors or not, so I dont know if snakes can get stoned or not. In any case, any kind of smoke is bad for any air-breathing animals.

Yness
11-03-03, 10:07 AM
my $0.02: They are working the laws through...I doubt you would get charged if you had a small amount for "personal use" but as it stands (at least in Manitoba) they can still charge you if you have some on you. But i have to say I agree with the taking it outside thing...

eyespy
11-03-03, 06:09 PM
Yes, they do have a small second lung, but the odds of it ever becoming functional should the primary lung fail are very slim. At best, the second lung just prolongs suffering, it doesn't really have the air sac capacity necessary to support life for very long.

Snakes should not be exposed to airborne toxins of any kind as they don't have the luxury of escaping to fresher air.

SerpentLust
11-03-03, 08:04 PM
Zoe was right about the questions being legit and the fact that if you answer then negetively then it makes the n00bs afraid...

She's also right about the pot thing, and Invictus is moreso right. You CAN have up to 30 grams. It's not completely legal to do so, but some people don't care about the fine yet.

So he was right about the de-crimialization.

In Ontario you can posses no marijuana on you and feel unafriad of prosecution. They recently told the OPP to start inforcing arrests and laws for any marijuana posession. While Ontario is still expected to review and change its laws this year, it is not now and at this point even a joint can get you arrested, maybe or maybe not prosecuted. Medicinal is a totally different ballpark though. And even if they are pushing the cops to bust people, some judges are throwing out marijuana cases, while others aren't, etc etc. But you cannot "legally" have any weed, nor is it 100% decriminalized.

In either case, smoking anything around animals is just plain ridiculous and dangerous for them.

Anyways, the weed isn't the issue here. Would you smoke in your kids room? Some people would. I think we all know the dangers of breathing in any type of prolonged smoke. You are after all, are responsible for the well being of your pets, and any choices made, can reflect how long that pet lives. ;)

Many reptiles that are kept by members of this forum are illegal, so should we not discuss these animals?
