With me havig this retic as a baby...only 2 months old, will he erver become as handleable and docile as a burm? Will I able to display him outside of my home like a burm would without causing to much stress to him? Or am I looking at basically a "show" snake?
At two months old they can be somewhat nippy. Theres a good chance he will calm down with some regular handling. Mine is about 4 months old now and she has never tried to bite or ever even hisses. She is not like any of my burms though. She is not mean in the slightest. But where my burms will sit and hang with me, she is always in constant motion. Give it some time and keep working with him. Good luck.

large constrictors loose(out of an enclosure) in public is generally considered a bad thing.

Well he has only struck and I only had him for a day and that was when I was misting his cage. I have missed and replced the water etc. since and he just kinna watched me..he even let me pet him..lol
I don't handle any of my new snakes until they have had atleast a week to settle in. Being in a new place is stressful enough for them, being handled or petted would be more stress on them. Leave him alone for a week or so and then try.

I've taken my retics out in public in the summer. The main thing is to be carefull. Everytime somebody asks to touch them I make sure I have a good hold on there head so nobody gets bitten .Also I take a backpack for my smaller retic. so when she wants to hide she goes in by herself , I just leave the bag open about 10 inch and if she gets stressed she has somewhere to go.
A spray bottle is aso a must , as retics get very dry.
Secondly I've had people (not paying much attention) walk up to me and histericly start screaming there heads off. Teriffied, and had others call me every name in the book. Including the cops being called, (Not fun)
I've also had alot of other people come up to me because they have never seen a snake. Most of the time the outlook of the people is good, just be carefull.
Most people know me around town now as (Hey! its the snake guy ) Good luck.

Wow, I m not trying to be a jerk or anything, but isn t it a bad idea to take your snake out in public where people are not expecting to encounter one? Its not fair to the public to be frightened this way, we most face the fact that not to many people are fond of snakes, especially large ones. As snake keepers these are animals for our curiosity and ours only! With the exception of visitors who are expecting to see one. I myself will not even bring mine on the front lawn, the back yard I see as ok if the neighbours are not complaining. I believe everyone has the right to own these animals but bringing them out in public is going to eventually take away my right to own them aswell.
My neighbour always asks me to bring out Hannibal, so I tell him to meet me in my backyard if he wishes to, otherwise my actions would be irresponsible.

Oh yea...Im not going to. I was just wanting to get peoples opinons on the matter thats all. I mean if his attitude doesnt change he will be rarely coming out of his cage, though I plan on working with him alot to somewhat tame him

So you think it is ok to just bring a large snake outside where people will be surprised by the presense of this animal? If the police are being involved, how come you still want to continue your public display of your snakes? This is the type of irresponsible practice that will take away others previllages to own large snakes. Also what would you do if your snake bit someone or in your case owning a retic, attacked, or even killed an unsuspecting person? You would be the one charged for any accidents, you having the animal there puts you responsible for its actions!
LOL, To each his own. I see where you're coming from, but unfortunately, that type of mentality cannot hold true in a situation such as this one. It isn't "OK" to do what you want to do because you want to do it, and the reason for that is that other people / animals are involved here; not only you. The animal's welfare, first of all, is placed in danger - minute danger, yes, but if the snake is hiding in your bag, it's because it's stressed. I'm not saying it's bad to bring it outside or anything, but not carrying the snake around on your back - it sort of defeats the purpose of excerise.
The second problem is, obviously, the people you encounter. Their fear of snakes may be irrational and stupid, but it's a fear some people have. Not much you can do about it, except not terrifying them with a presence of a 7' snake in a suburban neighbourhood.
Just an all around unpleasant situation for all involved, if ever things went wrong (which, according to you, they have more - more than once.)
Like I said, I am not in the least aversed to bringing snakes outside for exercise (I can't, because I live in an apartment, but if I didn't I would), but not in the presence of people who could be afraid of snakes. If they want to overcome their fears (or indulge them) they will go to the zoo - otherwise, you're cramming it down their throats.

But I thought you just got this 16' 100 pounder? Why would you take a new animal to the collection out in public? Most peopel don't even handle a ne animal for at least a week and then still after a meal after they get the animal.
Why do you insist on lying? I don't even think you could manage a 16' foot retic AND a 7' footer alone...even if you only brought the 16' footer out alone...I don't think you could properly handle it.
Also you say when people touch the animal you restrain the head. now do you believe restraining a snakes head is good? If you do then you are really an idiot.

As Brandon said there is only a Hand full of ppl that have Suluwasie Retic's.
And to have them at that size it would have to be a import. But that don't make sence because it is illegal For a suluwasie retic to be exported from there native land.
now 16 feet and 100LBs that is huge I am not saying it can not hapen but I highly doubt a IMPORT would be close to that.
Sure 16 feet can be done but not 16 feet 100LBs.
I say this only because I worked with a 14 foot green anaconda the just tiped the 75LBs so another 2 feet would not tip it to the 100LBs mark so a green anaconda at 16 feet is not 100Lbs or if it is, it is barly there. The reason I bring the Anaconda up is that simply when you are playing in that size range the anaconda is almost 2 times fatter then the retic's sure as 20+ footer adults they are relativly close and there is maby a 50LBs diffrence in them but at smaller sizes the anaconda is always fatter. Retic's are not fat snakes by nature they stay verry slender and are extreamly powerfull because they climb all the time as babys and sub adults so the develop there muscles way better then most snakes.
so you are told it is from Bob Clark I would contack him and see if he has sold any large suluwasies inthe past 5 years and you will see that you do not come by them just like you want.
so now I will humour you a bit and say you have a 16 foot suluwasie Retic and I will actualy give you a advantage I will say it is a LTC and not a IMPORT some one drops that off infront of you you do not know where to put your head. In lamen terms the Suluwasie Retic is the animal that gives retic's a BAD name.
I would sooner approch a 20+ foot African Rock Python with a team of 5 PPl B4 I would approch a 16 foot suluwasie with a team of 10 PPl
so for you to come here and say you want to bring a retic in Public that is bad enugh but the say you want to bring a suluwasie that is just asking for a new By law by the end of the day.
That animal attacks some one you are not gona be the one that will stop it...LOL. A 10 foot snake has a harde enugh punch to go thru a chip rock wall a suluwasie laugh at your puny plexy glass!! and they can climb over that plexy glass wall faster then you think. What would you do then, grab the tail and start hoping for the best if at that time it turns on you not only do you loose your life and become a statistic but you have done it in the public eye where fear will stay for 25+ years and you have ruind every effort we as a herp comunaty has done to educate the public.
I say you loose your life because it takes 5 PPl to imobilise a 12-14 foot calm retic that is just intrigued by what could be in the closet in time it just looses the the reason to go and investigate. A 16 foot retic that wants to kill you takes a team of ppl the actualy know where to start.
so I am basicly saying you most likely do not have any retic's perioud
I hate to be negative I just feel you do not know what you are realy talking about on this subject. I could be wrong but from what I see here that is what think of you but hey we are all huaman and I can not make any judgement over the net because I do not know you personaly but if I hade to tell some one what I think of your knowlege on large constrictors I would not have nice things to say.
P.S I mixed up two topics but the general message is there sorry for the comfusion.

cpt_retic,........How can you not take out you 16' 100lb retic any more when you never had one to start with? I have asked you questions about this Retic and your answer was you changed your mind and are not going to get it now. But in a few post's on this site you say you have it Your BULL ***** needs to stop man. Same as with your reply that you take your retics out in the public with your back pack open so your one retic can go in when she want's to hide. PLEASE....That is SO BULL ***** any body that really has retic's would agree. I would like to see pictures of these retic's you say you have. And i would like to know if you lack ATTENTION or something Because if your story's are true then it is people like you that screw it up for responsible keepers like many of us on here to have Big snakes.
