I don't know why I even have cage decos in the enclosure. My boa spends 90% of her time buried in the substrate or under the newspaper. I'm not worried about her because she occasionally ventures out to soak or get a drink and she eats like mad. I was just wondering if this is a common scenario. Also she uses the water dish as a bathroom, makes for easy clean up.

i dont use anything in my cages except a water dish and the hides, and maybe a a small branch to help aid in their shedding but that is it.
as long as she is eating and doing everything else fine cage decorations are a waste of money in my opinion.

Cage deco is kind of lost on boas. With something like a corn or an indigo, something that likes to move around a lot and explore, it's not as much a waste. If you want a good boa display cage, all you need is a realistic hidey cave, a nice looking substrate, and maybe a piece of driftwood (as HFH mentioned, to help with shedding). Sometimes they'll use clibing branches and ledges though. But, save the elaborate displays for the more active snakes, IMHO.

All I have are the hides, a stick and the water dish but she never uses the hides, she prefers to burrow.

Its obvious why you, and thousands of others have cage decorations. Because YOU like it. Its the only reason. If people set up cages that were actually FUNCTIONAL and contained useable items for their snakes, trust me when I say that 99% of people enclosures would look RADICALLY different.
