No it's not BS but I do not personally remember the exact story.

My Mexican Black king snake has bitten his own tail, then swallowed some of it before in a feeding "frenzy" he did let go though.

Whoa! I think I've seen this picture before, and I don't think it's BS. I have had friends tell me that their snakes have sometimes bitten and tried to swallow their tail.

I believe that is one of Kathy Love's snakes... and yes, it is strange! Must have had problems... I can't see how evolution would favour a snake that would eat itself.

I actually worked that out in my mind once. (This was when I actually had too much time on my hands, can you believe it?) I think if it actually was possible for it to go that far, it would flip itself inside out. Now THAT would be wierd....

Kind of odd that it wouldn't recognise it's own smell though, eh?

Very interesting picture....I wouldn't doubt that it's an authentic pic, snakes can exhibit behaviours like that, although rare.

LOL... that pic is for anyone who gives snakes more credit than they deserve :p. Not knocking snakes, they deserve every ounce of respect, but some people just like to make them out to be a little too smart... these are creatures of pure instinct. "Smells like snake, I like to eat snake, I'm all riled up up in feeding mode - Look! There's some snake!" Guess that one was a little slower than the rest....you would assume that it would've realized at some point that it was eating itself!

That picture is very much authentic and I believe was first posted by a very well known, large scale corn breeder and currently lives in the freezer.

I would have thought that it would have regurged its self.
Parents were probably siblings.
