if that is sand you are keeping him/her on you should take it off imidietly imo..it could causs impaction
Cute little guy! :)
I agree with Bartman, sand is not a good substrate for leos. Although they are from desert climates, they do not come from sandy areas, but rather rocky outcroppings and the like. All sand has a lot of difficulty passing (playsand, calci-sand, etc) and may lead to impaction, which can be fatal.
I heard that before (very often) and read about it in some Gecko books. Books don't seem to agree on that.
So, since I'm very hard headed I decided to try it myself.
Haven't had any problems with my 7 leos.
Maybe it can cause impactation, but everything is a risk when keeping herps.
I don't think this one is riskier that others.
Just my 2cents.

I also tried it on fir our leopard geckos. Well we had 3 of them eat the sand, didn't cause impaction but when we saw the sand in the stools, we took it off. The 12 other were doing fine on it.
Then again, from those 3, 2 would eat anything, from moss to earth...

there is obviously a risk but why take it? You can just keep it safe instead of making your tank nice..wihch btw is REALLY nice :D
watching a leo shed is the most amazing thing i've witnessed. it looks pretty messed up and laborous but it's so cool.
I think the most amazing thing to watch is them laying eggs. I caught the end of my female doing it the other week. Its unbelieveable to see such a huge thing come out of her.

Well now, I don't agree with that at all. They are all animals, all equal and deserve equal respect, so even if its not the latest morph, why treat it like it's not as 'special?'
He is a pretty good looking leo. And Bartman, love your setup! It's great!
