would they be fine with just a 100watt light bulb?

Would depend on the plant. But most likely.

a lot of plants need UV and thrive under them. I've heard pothos do well under a UV light.
A 100w bulb will only give off heat. That will do nothing for the plant.

i generally go by kalvins. The higher the better. I dont think it is so much the UV, its more just having the full colour spectrum. Normal incandecents usually give off the lower calvin red end, wheras a lot of flour's give off higher more blue spectrum. Both types exist on both ends of the spectrum.

geneally a full spectrum florcent would be better, cheap to run and cooler.

those new energy saving flouro's that go into an incandecent fixture are really good. They lean more to the red end, but man do they grow plants fast! reflectors go a long way as well.
