I've heard of people using these for iguanas when they keep them indoors or even outdoors. Well, I have a cage that I had set up for my savannah monitor and I ended up having to get rid of him so I could free the cage for my burmese python. I'm not getting anymore large reptiles, so I don't have to worry about spacing out. Anyhoo, the cage is 8 x4 and is located in the garage. It's getting pretty cold now, and in a day it went from about 85 degrees F to 45 degrees F. My question is... would it be possible to have this as a sufficient heating source for my burmese python and not worry about it getting too cold in the cage? We are redoing it so it works like a room and the heat will supposedly be locked inside. Of course the air holes will allow some heat to pass, but I'm hoping it will work out great. I also have spaces for overhead heating and undertank heating pads. Any and all information is appreciated. Thanks!

hmmmm. well you could try loading the top with accrelic heat attmiters and use that in combanation with maby a kane heat pad (they are expensive but i hear good things) and hook all of it up to a thermostat. but the down side is if it still dosent work you have just spend alot of cash for heating stuff that didnt work.

I could do all that. And if it doesn't end up working I could still use the heat stuff. Any more ideas?
Rach,
You will still have a hard time kepnig an even gradiant with the whole garage getting too cold. You really need a room at least in the 70's, if possible. You might have to check out getting that cage indoors if possible, or heat the garage as well as possible. Just not worth the risk with a burm. The outside walls of the cage will still be too cold. Talk to me at the show, maybe we can come up with somethng. Oh yeah I need that list on your feeder rats!
We'll get something worked out on your burm, no worries!!!
I agree with bedo for the gradient. If you pass that and have a perfect gradient, imagine if you have to open the enclosure for feeding or change his water or any thing and it's 45F in the garage... Maybe if you heat the garage
you will save for heating the enclosure.
