I know bloob Pythons require lots of humidity and dampness and I know I can meet the care requirement while i'm at my house. But I was wondering if the cage would dry put to much for the snake while I attend school. would I need to buy a misting system or will misting with a spray bottle provide the adequate moisture needed ?

I would think it would depend on the cage that you are keeping it in. If it has a screen top it would dry out quickly, but if you have an enclosure with only a small amount of ventilation, then the cage will keep the humidity up as there isn't anywhere for the moisture to go.

Hope that helps

i have the same problems as well sometimes....

i keep my bloods in melamine enclosures, and for the most part, the humidity stays in the range i like....but on cooler days with minute amounts of humidity in the air, it sometimes gets down to 40%....

I immediately spray them and get it up to 80% or so then it drops and the cycle continues....

I have not had any problems with my snakes getting RI's etc ....as of yet.
if it was possible, i'd have em at 60% year round....but unless u have an amazing facilty, with controled temps, it is nearly impossible to achieve this...

Assuming u get a CB, fluctuating %'s of humidity wont effect them that much...as long as they are not kept at inadequate levels for prolonged periods, they should be ok....

Keep em in rubbermaids for as long as u can, and then move them to melamine or plastic caging when larger....

If i was u, i would set up an enclosure which u would want to house them in, then buy a digital thermometer/hygrometer which has the min/max memorey for both....and test it for a week or so....

That way, u'll know how much it drops when ur not there....and maybe u could get a family member to spray the enclosure down when ur not home, etc...etc....

The digital thermo/hygrometer should only cost u about 35-40 bucks and is worth every penny when dealing with bloods.....

Its great to see ppl wanting to work with this species....they really are GREAT snakes....

Hope this helped....:D

Cage drying out while you attend school? Are you not going to be checking the snake once a day? Are you going away for school and then coming home once a month or something?? Man, please don't buy a snake if that's what you're doing.

If you do check it every day and you want humidity but don't want to be a spray-monkey, just put a water dish on the heat pad. Instant 85% man.

Hello Big Scott

I had probs with my blood too ... I kept having to mist him down everyday and still could not get the humidity right for prolonged amounts of time .. so I bough a mist maker from EMC .. so far it is not on a timer (yet - it will be).

This mister is on about 10-15 minutes a day and the humidity is great .. my ups is about 75 and downs is about 50 ..

Ill probably set the timer to 3 diferent misting times of 5 minutes interval during the day and I would imagine my humidity will be almost perfect .. I find that timeres are so efficient ... I my mind it makes sure everything is done perfectly ..

I JUST HATE WHEN THERES BLACK OUTS >> LOL

My mister cost me 30$ form a plant store and the timers for 7.99$ at the Home depot - totally worth it in my mind. It also just looks awesome in the tanks. I am installing an other in my jungle carpets and ballls tank .. maybe my bulls too ..

Jeff: U might be jumping to conclusions here .. when I was in university last ear I still took perfect care of my animlas in the morning and after noons when class was over .. its is possible although much harder and sometimes it does become a task instead of a want b/c of the lond ****ty days .. ( I HATE SCHOOL) So glad i am done! Although if it is someone esle who will take care of it while ure gone then I agree with Jeff's point..

Hope it helps a bit..

one trick I heard for enclosures that can hold water on the floor is to place one of the thick rubber doormats cut to size on the floor. These are the doormats that look like strips of tire rubber about an inch thick. Placed on the floor of the enclosure the mats allow water to be pooled on the floor and yet keep your animals from getting wet each time they move along the floor.

I'm only a senior in highschool and my school is about 20 mins away so i won't be in a dorm or something i'll be in my room. I defintley intend to take great care of this snake and to everything I can to keep it healthy. I have already had a somewhat unfortinate experience with Blood Pyhtons so i'm determined to make this one better than the last. It sounds like a misting system is the way to go so perhaps that 's what I will do. Is it safe to put a waterbowl on a heat pad . If it is that sounds relatively easy. Anyway thanks for your help guys!

i think he meant that U can easily put a uth underneath the enclosure and put a big water bowl on the hot spot IN the enclosure...this will make the water evaporate quicker ...there fore creating more mosture = humidity....
