Hi!

I just saw an ad for a hova-bator 1602N thermal air flow.
Is it good for leos? Anyone ever use an incubator like that? Should I buy it?

Thanks!

I tried a hovabator my first year and absolutley despised it! However, I am going to try again this coming season with some major adjustments. Just be sure to use it somewhere that has fairly consistant temps and provide adequate humidity. I saw the same ad and the price is fair.

I hearyou always need to refill the water and some of them will have problems regulating. Why spend $50-$100 on one when you can just make your own and not have to constantly refill the water levels.

I dont think we're talking about the same ad :P I saw mine on a french forum.

For about 120$ I can have this:

When I talk to people who made their own incubator they tell me the got about 2-4 eggs hatch on their first year... How can I make sure all the fertile eggs hatch?

Here's what I have been using for leos;
10 gallon tank-$10 at most pet stores
styrofaom lid cut to fit the inside rim-$free from pet store(used fish shipping box)
deli-cups/vermiculite-$.20 for delis/$4 for vermiculite)tank will hold 32 cups
wire baking cooling rack-$5 Walmart
digital thermometer-$10 Revy or Home Depot
UTH-$15 human heat pad from Walmart with temperature control

I place the wire cooling rack inside the tank and fill with enough water to be level with the underside of the wire rack. Then I use a mixture of 1/2-2/3 of vermiculite in the delis combined with 2-3 tbsp of water. I keep them ready in the incubator throughout the breeding season. I place the UTH centrally and plug it in. Then I run the digital thermometer into the tank and place the styrofoam lid on top. I have 100% hatch on all fertile eggs. Approx.$54.40 for a great set-up.
