My dad went to pick up the pinky mice for my young cali king. He accidently bought adult mice instead. The king really isn't very big, he's a hatchling from this year, and I don't know if he could take down adult mice. I want to feed him today, because he's on a schedule. Do you think I should try and give it to him anyways? It's about twice the width of him. What do you think?
If you worry about it then ..don't
You can always get another pinkie mouse and besides snakes can miss a meal for a few days or more...relax...schedules are flexable

Yea but will it cause any damage or will he just be very full? Do you think he would be able to take it down ok?
Don't worry about schedules, worry about proper feedings. He should probably be on something other than pinky mice by now as well, especially if an adult is twice the size of his girth. If he puts it away I'm sure it will stay there, but I would err on the side of caution and just something a bit smaller. Regurgitations aren't fun. When in doubt, its best to not.

The best rule of thumb for prey size is 1 or 2 items of approx. the same girth as the snake is in its thickest part. I'd guess that from what you said that your snake would probably be fine on small hoppers instead of pinkies. I would not feed it the adults as they sound quite large for your little one & you risk a regurge which is not very pleasent for you & even less pleasent for your snake. Mark I.
