I'm thingking of taking a 16' 100 lb retic to spookerama , a yearly halloween bash that brings the whole town. There going to give me an exit area in the building thats about 6+8 to close off . there going to let me use a couple of pieces of plexi , from the hocky rink as protection for the public, putting them in front of the people as a devider , heaters , cages and everything els I'm going to bring , 2 retics, 7' and 16 ' and possibly a boa 5' and an albino burm , 6.5'. Any suggestions?

Hmmm... I don't know about you but I have mixed feelings about it. Firstly, it's great that you're displaying your animals and showing the public, but doing it during a halloween bash, that might show people that reptiles are something to be scared of. I personally think you should go for it, just make sure not to scare anyone. Mabye try and explain to people that they really aren't that scary and everything. And make sure they stay behind the plexi so they don't totally terrify some snake-fearing old lady. Good luck, and I hope it all goes well for you. :)

if they are going to be on display you might want to write a short paragraph or so about the animals giving some info and put it next to the cage. that way people can learn about them but you not "lecturing" them per say

I think that it is a BAD! idea. Not only for you reptiles because it could so easy stress them out. But for the people that would be there. All it takes is one person to not like the idea of the snakes being there or to be afraid to death of snakes. And next thing you know you town or city lay's a big BY-LAW on snakes or any reptile for that matter. And that would not be fair to the other herpers.
I also have some big retic's and burms. And would love to do something like that with them. But then you have to remember the problems it could cause not just for you but other herpers.
Just my 2 cents

So far town council thinks it's ok, as long as the snakes ane away from the public via the plexiglass.

Good point Mike177 That is what should be done if you are doing a reptile show or what not. But this is a Halloween bash were people will be partying it up and being loud and would probably just cause more harm then good.
If you would really like to educate people on your snakes i would do it somewere a bit better then a Halloween bash. And let people know that you are going to be doing a little herp show with snakes so they have the option to go or not. by doing it at a bash it makes it no good for people that are scared to be around snake have a good time

#1, Think of your snakes man, Do you think that they would like it were everyone is going to be loud also with loud music?
#2, Who is Town Council to speak for everybody in your town. Did they put a sing up before hand stating that there would be larg snake's at this Bash. So that people would know?
#3, Town Council or not it would still only take 1 person to complain to the right people and then come the BY-LAWS.
It is up to you what you do all i ask is to think of your snakes (PETS) and other peoples feelings towards big snakes and what could go wrong.
Good luck to you

Thx guys I value my herps more then the show, ps I forgot to mention It's a walkthrough spookshow for people up to 18 , sorry( bash )was'nt the right word. oh yeah , It's being posted in the paper , about the snakes being there , I just don"t want my 16' retic freaken out . THere was snakes at the show last year but they were ball pythons

It's cool man we would all probably love to show our herps. But there are places to do so and a spookshow i just don't think would be good for you or your herps. Maybe if you can post some flyers out side of were the show is being held inforuming people that there are snakes inside. And maybe have only a have few people in at a time look at your snakes were it might not be so loud and put alot of stress on your pets.
I don't mean to come off hard it is just you have to think of your snakes well being and for other people including other herpers.
Good luck man hope it all goes well for you. :)

I know how Retic can get....lol And if you got a big one two I think that you would agree that it probably would not be in your best interest to bring him/her.
Brandon
P.S If you take a look in the Giant python forums i have a few pics of my retics. I just posted a pic of my 15.5' Sulawsie
Good to see another Retic lover to the site

SO-SO eh Brandon well then as far as Retics go she is great mine is an insane maniac lunatic...really damn cool. I do reptile shows for a living and would recommend against a retic doing such an avenue such as this halloween party. In my experience they are to easily ticked off, that is why my retic has retired from "show biz" now a burm or a boa then go for it. But a tic...well yours may be more acclimated to humans then mine...you have to make the final call...but from my "professional" (i luv saying that) stand point...bad idea. If you do take them let us know how it went asap :)

IF you insist on doing this, at least have one or two other experienced people with you that can help handle the over stressed snakes!! I too have a 16' 100+lb retic, and when he is completely calm he is a handful (moves alot, like most retics). That is all I can tell you, you are going to do what ever you have already decided to do.

I'm not big on taking snakes out in public UNLESS its for a knowledgable reason.......
So basically the only way I'll approve of it is if you tlak facts not the "cool" stuff........also why dont you print up some fact sheets and hand them out?? I think that would be awesome(maybe with a ssnakess.com link??) haha
Oh and also as long as you have protection from the public like you say

Thx guys ,I think I'm going to leave the big retic at home , taking the burm, boa and small retic.

Sunrunner,.. I meant SO-SO Because she can be mean as hell when taken her out of the enclosure. But then she seem to calm down when she is out. But you are right she is great But far from great to do a show with.

cpt_retic,you talk like the same person named _SOPRANO_, you made quick the disturbance on another forum. You even said you keep that 7' retic and that 5' boa in the SAME CAGE and don't see a problem with that!
Also you were already "lectured" on this whole idea about bash for halloween on the other forum.....why would you even consider bringing ANY of your snakes out to a halloween thing? It is cold and as someone mentioned it would probably instill more fear into the people then anything.
Fact sheets are worth nothing at this type of outing. It was already mentioned that people will be partying or continuing to walk through the thing than stand around and read something on snakes. To them its just a show.

Shouldn't you know how to spell or pronounce the locale of your snake before you go and buy a 16 footer? Do you even KNOW what a large sulawesi can do? Did you research on the fact they tend to still be really mean and not have a good temperment. I can't wait to see that snake up for sale again.

I have been starting to think that my self, He will be in for a hell of a ride if he thinks keeping a 16' 100lb retic is going to be easy to do much with. My 15.5' sulawsie is far from easy to even move.
cpt_retic, When you get this 16' 100lb sulawsie i would really like to see the pic's. Because some of the things you have said not just in this post but others sounds to me that you are really not ready for a sulawsie yet or any retic as far as that goes.

I'm getting her From D&D Exotics in Ont. In case you did'nt read it earlier I'm not going to take her.
The dude I'm getting her off of said she was one of Bob Clarks line of SULAWESI, but I know he does not breed those. So I;m thinking she is not a sula or it's not from Bob.
Aaron S , tell Lynch I'll be up on the Clark forum again soon.
I've found it alot more mello in here then on Bobs forum... and pissing everyone off is not what I purposly intended to do .
Like I said before, I'll get some pics up when I get my snake.

For some reason I think people are a bit less scared of the big snakes. The big snakes are kind of surreal for some people.
