tempermental retic

I've got a 3 year old retic . Ive had here for a year now she is 7' and realy tame (to me ) my friends handle her, and she is a little fiesty but has never bitten them, however I had somebody I don't know try and take here off of my shoulders . She flipped out launched off my shoulder (5') and barely missed his face . She missed, the guy was teriffied . Has anyone ever had anything like this happen?

I set my burm which is 5 feet, down on my chesterfield to take a picture of him, picked him up 10 seconds later his body went flat and he went to tag me in the face. I was quick enough to move my head out of the way of the strike, fortunately! So I now know that when I bring him out not to let him out of my hands or off my lap because I figure he feels safe when I am holding him or when I am not holding him and go to pick him up he thinks Im a predator. This has happened to me many times but he never striked at me just gives me little hisses, yet never happens when I get him out of his cage.

I might be the only one that will point this out to you but lets look at the fact that it is 3 years old and only 7 feet AND it is a female I have a male that is one year old that is allready 8 feet.
I am not sure what you are feeding it but it needs way more then what you are offering.

the guy I bought her off of said she waS 2.5 years old when I got her , he could have been wrong, he was just a reptile finder. he did'nt know much about the retic . I keep her on rabbits , about once a week.

Could esaly be a dwarf,
and not all retics grow to such a huge lenght in the wild.

Dwarfs get larger then 7ft even females......I'd feed it multiple rabbits a week....maybe 2-4. My MALE Burmese Python is almost on rabbits and not even a year old......

Thx for the info, Dose anybody know where to get feeder rabbits in BC or AB fairly cheap? adults in town here are costing me 28 bucks a pop & 1 liter pop bottle size ars 10 bucks. lol

I'd feed it multiple rabbits a week....maybe 2-4

that sounds like way to much 2-4 rabbits would be over feeding I would feed her maby a 4 pounder eatch week (depending on her gerth) if u want to see if u can get her to be big, i would doubt it is a dwarf because if it was a dwarf you would know, and you would of payed for it,

The price of rabbits in town is $ 10 for a small and $28 fore a large. If anybody knows of anyplace cheaper please PM me I'm spending 200 + a month 2 feed my retics.

Big snakes take money to keep, Why dont you try a sales barn or look for a breeder. Or even start to breed your own.

order some frozen ones in and buy a lot so you get your moneys worth, i think you can get large ones for 10 bucks!

I use to pay $1 pound for rabbits And then i satrted to go to the sales barn and get them cheaper. I now have a guy that sells me 200 good size rabbits for $250 every 4 months.

We must never forget snakes are wild animals. They may react quite defensively in strange or even familiar situations. They are very unpredicatble. Just because a snake hasn't bitten someone in 10 years, is not to say it won't one day in the future during a routine cleaning or something. There are any number of things that can set off a strike. Perhaps he had a scent on him that the snake found appetizing, or frightening. Maybe it was the way he moved the snake. There are any number of possibilities.

Super Dwarfs often finish around 5.5 - 7 feet as adults. However these are not as commonly found.

I wounder if maybey snakes are predictable, but there are probaly too many variables? I know that the instincts of crocadiles are but that may be a whole other ball game, well I don t no just a thought!
