I'm not sure, but I would be hesitant about using any type of fertilizer around the herps.......

Be very cautious....I wouldn't try it!

Maybe this thread should be in the tortoise forumn. You may have better luck there.

I'm uncertain as to what types of fertilizers are used in Miracle Grow soil so I cannot say for certain, however I have to agree with Gargoyle. Tortoises put everything in their mouths... even if its all natural it probably isn't something you want upsetting your tortoises system. You want to avoid phosphorus in animals diets and all fertilizers are chock full of it. It also contains perlite which you do not want your tortoise to ingest. I would definitely choose a different substrate.

On the same note, I would suggest being very mindful about what type of plant you put in there. If any part of the plant is within reach, it will be eaten.

I wouldn't think miracle grow would be very good..

You beat me to it. Be very very careful what type of plants you put in there!!! Do not use miracle grow!!!! You have no idea how safe it is or even what is in it to grow those friggin huge tomatos! If you want something to use as a substrate for a natural vivaria use expandable coconut husk mixed with bonemeal which is a 100% organic fertilizer and harmless to reptiles. And there you have a perfectly suitable and safe organic substrate ready to go plants. Oh I believe the mix is 70/30. 30 being bone meal. PLease research your plants though because many plants are poison to herbavoirs. TB

thanks for your comments everyone....
i know i might be in the wrong forum but still i have gotten some feedback....

Ok i must clarify the fact that the plants i put are some plant native of the rain forest of Colombia (south america)...
I beleive they are harmless to the tort because .... well it's obvious...they are from the rain forest of south america.....

i don't know the English name of these plants but i'll look into it....

thanks again.....

It has always been the turtle/tortoise forum by my eyes.

I would suggest against the miracal gro. My torts eat everything and anything. I tried potting soil once and changed it the same day because they were eating the bits of firtilizer

I saw the thread after it was moved too so I thought it was always here. Just a little confusion. But, NO dont use miracle grow plants. If they eat the substrate or even the plants they could get very sick. When I buy plants with fertilizers in the soil I repot and set in the sun to grow for 6 months before I use them in my chameleon or tortoise enclosures. This gives the plant adequate time to clense itself of any inpurities. Better safe then sorry.
