Telling the new love interest about my herps

I have a very special lady in my life and I was wondering how other guys have dealt with the subject of disclosing their herp obsession.

I know that she likes animals but snakes put alot of people off particularly most females. This has been bothering me alot.
I thought that maybe I could see how other people have dealt with this kind of thing.

At least it's a herp and not herpes problem, that would really put a damper on this romance lol

Do not tell her for a few weeks, and make sure she like you. Then when you tell her it should not matter. Also do not chase her around the house with a snake or she will be gone.

If your reptiles are kept in a room you do not have to go in with your gf (let's say a basement or a room other than your bedroom or living room). Do not take her in there, and best thing, is to mention that you have a cute little reptile in a discussion. If you wait till she asks you what is in that room, then it's bound to be a argument on not trusting her with her reaction to reptiles.
I am lucky, my gf is even more of a reptile fanatic than me.

No it is not personal experience (YET). But she told me if I ever did she was leaving for good. At least I know how to get rid of her if I ever want to. LOL

I would tell her....trust is the most important part of a relationship. If she doesnt like it, then its just not ment....

I wouldn't hide it.
I'd just bring it up in conversation.
Same way as you bring up whether or not you have kids, or an ex, or pets...
discussing common interests, likes/dislikes...just tell her straight out.
Like someone else said already...are you going to get rid of the herps if she doesn't like them? Probably not, right? So, just tell her. She'll accept it and be fine with it, or she may tell you "keep them away from ME!"
For all you know, she may be quite interested in your pets....and it might just be one more common interest that you could talk about.

I've never thought this was an issue. I'm a complete package - reptiles and all.

Anyway, when my boyfriend found out, guess what? He wanted a gecko - and that was his birthday present some time later. She's over 3 years old and he still loves the herps. But of course, I do the cleaning, they ARE mine. :D

When I met Christina I had 7 snakes. She's now my wife and I have 30 snakes. She asked two things of me. 1. Don't get too many. 2 Don't get anything big. Well her idea of too many and my idea of too many apear to be different. On Saturday I got my first BCI.

Personally I would wait until the one month mark. If she is a "monther" then she obviously likes you. If it is sooner then a month she might not be as connected to you and decide it is to odd. Go by her personality though, if she is a good person it shouldn't matter if you have reps or not. Although I don't think "I got herps!" is a good pick up line. :D TB

Seriously...has anyone actually LOST a potential mate because someone they were dating just couldn't handle the fact that they kept snakes/lizards...whatever????

Good God...if someone is going to bail over a persons choice of pets...in my opinion, they aren't worth the effort anyway.

It's been my experience that if a man I'm interested in has a problem with snakes/lizards etc they just don't take part in my involvement. You know...no feeding, no cleaning cages, no "oooohs and awwwws" over the cute little reptilian face staring back at me through the glass (or screen as the case may be)...that sort of thing. But no one has ever said ...I'm sorry, I can no longer see you because you keep reptiles.
I don't know what I'd do if I ever came across any SO phobic that they couldn't date me because of it.

I would just tell her. If my boyfriend told me i could no longer keep reptiles i would boot him out before them!!! He gets me and my reptiles (he doesn't have to care for them i will) or nothing at all. But luckly for me my man loves our reptiles so i don't have to worry about that.

and angelina jolie is so freaking HOT!!!!!!!! I would turn for her and only her, but not give up my reptiles. *wipes drool from mouth* now i wanna go watch foxfire or gia or maybe origanal sin!!!!!

just tell her you collect herps. i doubt she would mind anyways unless you made her touch them or something. maybe she likes snakes!
