I was just wondering what would be best for my ball python....Should the UTH be one the same side or the opposite side of the enclosure as the heat lamp (I have a 35 gallon tank if that gives you an idea about size)
thanks!
p.s. i'm using only the heat lamp right now and she's warm and happy but it's getting colder and I think i need the UTH as well (?)
thanks again;)

I think u definetely need a UTH for the night time. Maybe u could use just the bulb for daytime and just the uth for nighttime.

depending what you are putting in the tank a UTH might be all you need. i just have boas and pythons and all i use is a UTH for all my cages.
But if you cant keep up the ambient temp in your house to what you need for your herps you will prob need a low watt light to help out a bit.

BP's need belly heat all the time. If you are going to use a UTH AND lamp then put your digi thermometer on the bottom of the cage on top of the UTH, and put the heat lamp on top of it.
I use a UTH and a regular bulb lamp and that keeps the temps about 90-95 degree's hot side
